From Carpassion: the wheels are all stunning, they improve the look of the car 10000% compared to the ugly originals (which will NEVER sell in the USA - the pentagram design is a "witchcraft" sign that puritan americans will never accept!!! They have already been labelled "witchcraft" wheels by everyone in the American forums! What was Pininfarina drinking???)

Also the 4-lights rear end is much nicer. Let's hope some bodywork aftermarket specialist can really build it.

    Wow, looks much better!!!!!
    Way to go for Ferrari!
But........the very important US market :( I don`t like this quote!
I dont want to americanize too much.
Jeans, T-Shirts, Coca Cola, Microsoft, Micky Mouse, Pamela Anderson.......a.s.o. lots of great stuff came over form the US and we adopted this thankfully.
But should we (the europeans) built a car for the US taste?????
    What is the US taste????
If a US dude wants to go for a good dinner - he is going to a (always very expensive) Italian restaurant, or greek, or french to enjoy the REAL cuisine.
If a US dude wants a real good, safe and fast car - he will buy a Porsche, BMW, Audi RS, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Mercedes.

    Think about this Ferrari!
Where does you come from again????
    "Europe, ITALY, MARANELLO!"
Serve your company, country and dont forget your roots.

Ferrari-badged personal gyms, laptops, and cologne are proof that roots and history will never be able to compete with greed in Maranello...

The US is by far the largest market for Ferrari. It is very normal that they listen very carefully to their most important customers. That is marketing!
Of course it will still remain a real European product.

    Augustine,
sadly true and I know....the run for the $$$$$$$$$$.
But in a long way it doesn`t pays off IMO - its just the quick deal/cash like all the MS/F1 merchandise money. In 10 or 20 years nobody cares about the ACER lap top or MS caps!

Greetings from a "US dude", not sure what that is. First, everyone of the wheels from marenello 71 was terrific. Great job. Most people, Americans, Europeans, Asians, do not like the star wheels in the 599 photograph. We will have to wait and see if that is actually the wheel Ferrari uses in production.

Second, except for our safety standards, I do not want to see the Ferrari Americanized. If I want an Americanized car, I will buy one of the new Corvettes. I want a classic European sports car, with European styling, and for me there is only one in the world: Ferrari.

And third, when I go out to eat, we go to Taco Bell. Always fun in the Ferrari.

    Hello Ron,

hopefully you don`t take it too serious and personal - no offence!!!
The "US dude" is just a saying like the "German".
I have been over 100 times (not kidding thats true and in my passport) in the USA during the last 20 years. I think I have a "little" clue/idea what "some" like and prefer.
    A few examples.....
Mercedes - what a big deal to see, drive or own a Mercedes in the USA.
For Germany: If I want to drive a Mercedes, I just call a cap. 99 % of our caps are Mercedes.
A Lincoln or Cadillac Stretch Limosine is something totally exciting an eye catcher and ultra rare to see in Germany. For USA......usual boring stuff you can see at each airport and downtown .
Taco Bell - way to go, know them very well.
Corvette - I have owned and driven for 1 year a ´71 Big Block Corvette in 1979 - I dont wanna miss this experience!
And last but not least: Pamela Anderson is still sooooooooooo hot°, hotter°° than Heidi Klum will ever be!

Wolfgang: I apologize, I was trying to be funny with the reference to a "US dude". No offense taken at all. I enjoyed your comments. Thank you.

Funny, I like Heidi Klum better!! I will trade you one Pamela Anderson for one Heidi Klum.

I also like the looks of the new rims on the 599 GTB better. I am very curious what the car will look like in "real life"!

Thats because most americans are idiots and have no idea what a pentagram is beyond the cover of a motley crue album.

But I like your wheel choices better, in any case.

Wanna trade for Heidi ? No problem, she is already living in NY.

No need to apologize at me or in the european section!
We are all & always in good fun - sometimes its just a matter of translation/understanding problems with our second language.

Americans are not all idiots, unfortunetely the current definition of a pentagram is most usually to do with satanic rituals. The definition of pentagram has changed often from the time of the early Greeks to the Mason's, so possibly in the future the primary definition of a pentagram will change again and will be simply: "the wheels on a 599 GTB".

didn't say all, said most. I am suggesting most americans do not know what a pentagram is, and will associate them with satan, even though its not an inverted pentagram with a goats head in the center. thats satanic. an upright pentagram without a goats head is not satanic. I'll bet 51% of the american population does not know that.

Yes they are...and the guy who mounted all that stuff made the rims waaaay to big. for him it was easier to pshop the wheels on the car in this position, but that's not what it will look like in real life...

To go back on topic (how to make the 599 GTB look quite sexy): there's an argument that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, critics are the people who can't afford one, there's a waiting list, I'll buy one and like it "because I can" etc. In my architectural education I've learned to judge design and its inherent beauty and with the preservation of not having seen the car in the flesh yet I would like to comment on the design. I will concentrate on the design only. I did see the mule at work at Fiorano in May last year and it was fast and had a great sound.

First the overall shape of the car. There doesn't seem to be a prominent theme. Where did the original first sketches start from? What was the inspiration? It only seems to be a continuation of allready existing design forms taken from other Ferrari models. Cars that do have a prominent theme are for example the Bugatti Veyron, 246 GT Dino, Porsche 911, Cobra, Jaguar E-type etc. If you like them or not they do have a strong theme going on and almost every line enhances that design making it a coherent one.

Then the nose of the 599. All sorts of lines, forms, materials and shapes colide with eachother, no coherent form at all. Every detail looks out of place. The main grill has the eggcrate slots whereas the two vents on either side of the grill have the mesh version. There's not much metal between these two different kind of use of material which makes it confusing. The lower lip of the front has a lot of curvature which makes it fussy as well. The headlight pods have no strong shape (like the Enzo does) and are lost because there are no other lines in the surrounding metal to support them. What's with the panel gap below them anyway? The main grill has a wry smile about it.

The bonnet is very sharply lined which contrasts very much with the front fenders and the nose.

There are acres of metal between the rear wheel wells and the greenhouse. That's been a downside of the edge shape allmost from the beginning but as a result the rear wheels look very lost.

The greenhouse itself suddenly has quite a strong design language with the flying butresses and rear window. On the total car they look out of place because that language isn't continued anywhere else on the car.

All in all my opinion is that the design is flawed. If Pininfarina had chosen for a strong and consistent design theme I believe the result would have been a classic.

    Ciao, Peter
