I currently have a '13 458 italia, and I'm interested in purchasing another Ferrari, the 488 GTB under my specs, however I'm having a really hard time ordering one with my local Ferrari dealerships, one even had the audacity of requiring me to lease a Ferrari California in order to put in an order on the 488.

Is everyone put under this scrutiny when attempting to order one, or is it simply the Southern California dealers that are being difficult?

Please advise on your experiences, as I really would like to order one ASAP, even if that means going to a different, out of state, dealership.

    Any input would be appreciated.

You have to buy one in your local territory. You wouldn't be able to order a new one from a dealer in Chicago and register it in Newport Beach, for example. Some places have only one dealer while others like SoCal, NYC, and South Florida, have multiple. You're fortunate in that respect.

Dealers can have preferred clients but it's better to have a long history with the marque and own multiple Ferraris. That said, lots of people get to order cars through their dealers without owning multiple Ferraris or a long history of owning Ferraris. I think in many cases, it comes down the dealer feeling like the buyer would make for a good long term client.

Sorry that you're having a difficult time in placing an order.

    I guess it's "No 488 for you!". Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

2nd post in 9+ years - might be some sort of "lurker" record.

California T looks pretty good actually. Worse ways to spend the wait. That said, audacious indeed.

Get used to it in so cal. it's the same petty much everywhere. Unless you have a home within 100 miles of an out of state dealer with proof of residence (utility bills for 6 months etc) no one can sell you a NEW 488. The benefits is any new 488 is it has to be sold at MSRP -- nothing more.

This is nothing new. No disrespect but a bit puzzled that you seem surprised.

Cali T is a great car with the family, fast and comfy...if you want a spirited driving experience you'll need another F. Loved having both in the garage!

To get a 488 at MSRP at most dealers you will need to create a relationship in some form or fashion. There are some that get an allocation without doing this but not many.

Otherwise I would just enjoy the 458, a great car and pick up a used 488 in a few years.

To order one, yes you need to order from your local dealer. Meaning, where you are going to register and title the 488. I would be happy to work with you over email if you want to learn more.

Never ceases to amaze me witnessing the crap that US Ferrari buyers put up with from the national dealer network. In Europe, you can walk into a dealer and have a new 488 in 8 weeks. Even the same day if they have a floor model you like.

Well, it's why resale values stay high in the US and fall like a rock in Europe.

I'm not defending it but keeping supplies limited forces resale prices to stay higher.

I remember when I lived in France and wanted to buy new cars... MB and an AUDI. It is not like here that you can walk around and pick one that you like with the options... I had to wait months to get one... Totally opposite from US. However, Ferrari seems to be different in EU. I did not know that...
