I know this sounds really klutzy, but I have limited time and not a good place to work. Nevertheless I want to replace the old radio.

Two screws appear to hold the instrument cluster that contains the radio. Is removing them all that is needed for good access? The air conditioning ducts are below the radio and I don't want to drop the cluster and wind up with a mess on the floor and a big job re-assembling.

Easy, remove the air con duct from behind/below...then remove the two screws from below (which you already know about)...that is pretty much it.

I dropped all that out to remove the clock for repairs...looks pretty simple to remove the radio. I certainly wouldn't pay anyone to do it, with such easy access.

Good luck, should be a quick swap.

Removing the radio was the easiest one i ever did. Yes, remove the two screws from underneath the center console, then it should just slid forward to access everthing there. My 88 328 had an older Sony radio/CD player and it had the amp mounted behind the passanger's foot well too. I have a few pictures. One of them is the old radio i removed and there is another one of everything put back together with the new radio installed. Probably took me about 2 hours to do everthing....

    Tod,

Thanks for the pics. They are very helpful. The place where I plan to buy the radio has talked a lot about making up a harness. It looks to me like a case of just switching one connection at a time from old to new.

I'll lay in a stock of various connector types before starting.
