My OEM radiator fan on the RHS is making a strange noise, so I thought it was time to replace it. Have taken the grille off and undid the bolt holding the fan bracket together. But there is no way to fit the fan through the hole. So, I removed the nut and washers from the front of the fan hoping to remove the fan first, then extract the motor, but the fan won't budge.
Any ideas on how to remove the fan and motor?

The bracket friction-clamps around the fan housing. Bend it open slightly.

From memory I just take my grill out and they will drop and roll the blades thru that opening.

The plastic fans do stick and they are fragile, so go easy with all this...leave them on.
If your fans on a later car are behind the radiator, disregard all of that....LOL!

Thanks very much for the advice. I bent back the brackets more than slightly, bent up the upper grille bracket and managed to wriggle it through the gap. I guess mine was a bit more difficult with the air con exchanger as well as radiator making a smaller gap, a few fins to put back in shape now. :)

I've ordered a new aftermarket fan, similar to the one that is already on the LHS, so hope that pops back in easily!

Now I have the fan and motor out in one piece, I'm wondering if it can be reconditioned?

They can absolutely be rebuilt, the OEM Lucas fans.
They also fit a V12 Jag of some sort, World Parts has the exact unit for $149 last I bought one.

So that would be your bushings and brushes budget.

FWIW the fan motors are basic. I posted a rebuilding thread with pictures and source for the brushes. Just saying.
