How to remove 348 black plastic hood trim

Hood trim on the front compartment lid? If so there's a thread or two on this. Involves removing a metal cover underneath that's rivited on. Need to drill out the rivits first. Early cars have three rivits and the later have 5.

 

Do you mean the targa top?

 

I think he means the front hood vent.

Drill out the rivets on the air duct inside the hood. All will become clear then.

Early cars have three fasteners and the later have 5.

So if you're buying a replacement, get the later one. Five fasteners will help reduce the warpage.

 

All the new vents come with 5 studs if you can get one but you would need the extra stupidly priced brackets. Parts 18,19 and 20 on the diagram. Hopefully already fitted so you don't need any of it.

You can't really stop the rivet bodies from falling inside the hood, but as I had it off for painting, with a friends help, we managed to shake it around until they fell out of the various holes and gaps on the underside of the hood. Hinge holes for instance. I think most came out. There will be a few of 348s driving round with them in Im sure.
