There's two ways to remove the battery (rear) from your 1990 348:

    1) From above. Disconnect both battery terminals. Check to see if there is a hold-down clamp on the lower front side of the battery, if so, remove the nut holding it down (not easy to reach), then take a deep breath, reach in there, grab the battery, and pull it up and out. Batteries are heavy, but I've done it on mine. You can get inexpensive tools that are designed for lifting batteries, but not really necessary.

    2) From the left rear wheel well. Disconnect both battery terminals. Jack up the left rear corner and install a jack stand under the subframe for safety. Remove the lug bolts and remove the left rear tire. With a phillips screwdriver, remove the screws (5?) holding the liner inside the wheel well. You now have a direct shot at the battery. If it has a hold-down, remove it, then pull out the battery.

Now that I think of it, don't some 348's have a cover over the battery? Mine doesn't, so I'm not sure how that works.

its seems that taking it out from above is the quickest way, I'lll attempt that first, but why go for option 2? if option 1 works? thanks

I just looked out in the garage to see if I had forgotten anything about removing the battery from above - two things:

    - Remove the left air intake tube from the air filter housing and push it out of the way.

    - Remove the cover from the left rear tail light housing, using the two thumbscrews.

This will give you a bit more room to operate.

Don't wear nice clothes when you do this, and wash your hands afterwards, exposure to any battery can get corrosive gunk on your hands.

Just remove the tail light cover from inside the engine compartment, like-a so. Don't need to mess with the tail light itself. It gives you a little bit more room.
