Want to address my torn inner CV boots. I cannot find anything on how to get the axles out. 348/355 has some videos, and it seems a lot of rear suspension parts need to be moved to get the half shaft out of the wheel carrier. Is it mainly the same procedure for our cars? Or is there a simpler way to do it? Getting the axle off the transmission is straightforward, but then what?

Also are torque settings the same as the mid engine variants for axle bots and drive nut?

If you loosen the bolts on the gearbox side, how low does the axle get?
If you are able to get it low enough to reach and remove the clip holding the CV joint together then you should be able to remove the joint, cage and balls and the boot. Hopefully the axle does not need to come off the car.

They definitely cant come down much.. exhaust and lower control arms are in the way. Should have some movement up and possibly aft.

I though of doing it that way as well, but it gets tight if i need to knock the cover off the CV (transaxle side) same with simply having leverage getting the circlip on and off. Didnt want to start and find out half disassembled it wont work

I may be able to pull it free by going up and aft then down once the wheel side is free. Eventually rear control arms all need bushings, may just knock it all out first at once

How about loosening all bolts on both sides of the axle? If the axle is free then you might be able to toss it out somehow. I would try this before taking apart the suspension. The problem here is you don't seem to have a two post lift which would allow releasing the suspension and get enough distance between both sides of the axles.

The way the wheel side stub axle seems to be 1 piece i dont know how i could only drop the shaft without pulling it towards the middle. My VW bus was like that.. same on both ends, you just unbolt and it drops. Which also brings me to the question, how do you service the outter CV? Does it still come apart? Am I overcomplicating this?

The YouTube video with the 355 they release some of the lower suspension and swing it outwards to get the axle free

I can use a different lift, or even on the ground with jack stands, but not sure if there is another way.

Well, just like you I thought the CV joints were the same on both sides...
Since you have to start somewhere, just loosen the bolts on the gearbox side and see how much you can move around the axle once this side is off. You might just have enough room to get to the clip. At least I would go step by step, I would avoid taking the complete corner apart it it's not needed.

You must undo the nut in the hub and undo the long bolt that connects the hub to the lower suspension arm. Otherwise you won’t get the shaft out.

like I said earlier; these cars are not diffucult to work on, but every job takes many steps. Just do all the steps. And don’t be in a hurry

Point taken. CV kits have been ordered. I’ll hopefully get to it in the next 2 weeks.
