Ugh, at least the good news is my car limped home...but now, won't start (no spark) and the inductive pickup on the distributor measures as an open. Anybody had experience with replacement parts or repair for this ? Thanks--Lee

No option other than replacement. Sometimes a well placed(lucky)blow/tap will wake up dead hall sensors for a brief period but don't expect a cure.

    Good day Lee,

If the inductive pickup is like the one in my BB and most other cars, there is really no repair possible. Usually the pickups are made from a magnetic core surrounded by fine windings (wire) and the whole assembly is encased in epoxy, bakelite, etc. In some cases the pickups have some internal circuitry as well in order to "clean" up the electrical signal. Sadly, once they are done, they are done...

I know the BB ones are really hard to find if not impossible...except, of course, if one buys a new distributor for $2K! Check the usual salvage yards (Eurospares, GT Car parts, Rutlands, etc) to see if they have any good used ones. I know that this does not immediately help you, but I will at some point design a replacement for the BB (just in case I need one) and if I do this, then I could extend the design to include the 400 and other series of cars.

    Cheers,

    Sam

I seem to recall that in some of the other forums that other owners have solved this very problem through research of other makes and models..Just remember that both Ferrari and Marelli neither invented nor re-invented the wheel... they just went to the great international parts bin for 99.5% of everything on these cars..As I recall, most of these solutions were very in expensive..I.m sure that you'll find them with some digging...Jacques.

    Good day Jacques,

You are quite right. However, sometimes Ferrari or other vendors use the same "core" technology with packaging specific to the marque or the model... When I looked at the BB ones, the physical attributes of the sensor appears be specific to the BB distributor... so unless another vehicle has a similar type of distributor, one is out of luck. Now, I have not seen a 400 series pickup and so it may be more mainstream and thus obtainable. If possible, can someone post a reasonable high res picture of the 400 pickup? Maybe someone may recognize it from another vehicle?

    Cheers,

    Sam
