Francis is coming to kick some Azz in FL. I think I might be safer staying here bcus I dont want to get caught in the Hurricane in traffic in the middle of the Everglades.

Bought $300 worth of food, bandaids, tylenol, Imodium & filled my bathtub with water + I have 12 gallons of water in the fridge

Filled the gas tank in the Tahoe & closed the metal shutters. I live in a 30 story concrete Bldg so I think I should be safe, I plan on spending the day as deep inside my apt as I can get.

    Any more ideas ?

I'll take some video & photos if the eye passes over Miami

It gets very calm when the eye passes over. sometimes you will see blue sky and maybe some sun pass through.. but watch out for the area surrounding the eye thats where some of the fiercest winds are!

Yep, you need some hot babes. How many people do you know that have had sex in the middle of a hurricane?

Bonus points if you put "Rock You Like a Hurricane" by the Scorpions on the stereo while gettin it on....

    Good Luck William.

My youngest daughter is a college student in West Palm Beach and they have cancelled all classes and her soccer games this week. She is heading up to Rome, GA to see her big sister play soccer and to hide out for the weekend. My youngest's soccer coach was finding homes for the rest of the players to stay at on the West Coast of Florida.

Be careful and stay safe. This one looks big.

Yea, good luck with that. I'm not sure how safe a 30 story building is? Sounds scary especially if windows get broken. It will create a vacuum in that case.

Anyway my brother is in West Palm and has been boarding his place up. If you follow the NOAA.com site it looks like it is beginning to swing farther north.

I hope for all the best for our FL friends.

Good Luck, my friend....this is gonna be dangerous if you end up in the storm center....

Sounds to me like you are light on fresh water...you can figure on three weeks without power after a direct hit...the high lines will be gone..

Are you beachfront or back some distance from the storm surge? It could be 18 - 20' tall incoming tide from a storm this size......

Can you access your unit's Load Center? You could run a generator on the balcony and back feed with SJO cord after turning off the main breaker. Add gasoline to that list, if so. A working refrigerator will make you very popular, not that you weren't before......

Turn off any Natural Gas service, if present. Fire extinguishers....

I hate to post this, but it's fact...you'll need GUNS and BULLETS if you plan to be out in the aftermath. Once the lights go out the "smash and grab" will begin....be very careful out on the streets......

I hope the shutter system is a good idea. Intuitive logic would have you OPEN the windows to avoid wind loading the building so heavily. Hopefully all the footing design is adequate and the concrete samples made the three day break testing...........

Batteries, flashlights, Candles, lanterns, three weeks of Boy Scout stuff.

The stranded cocktail waitress has merit, also.......

You won't be thinking about sex, once the 150MPH winds start swaying the building.......you'll be hearing loud cracking sounds.....

If it's the end, and the shutters fail and the tower structure starts to go, the bathtub will be the last, best refuge.............

Just store the water, put the beer in the fridge, and maybe some champagne for when you see the blue sky again.

I'll be praying for you, you brave, crazy dude!!!!

If you do look this thing in the eye, I can bet you'll never do it again!
    Be careful...........

Just one more thing…BUBBLEGUM ! Nothing will relieve the pressure like bubblegum! (Pressure on your Ears.)

You may also consider some rope so that you can climb down to the Hottie’s balcony below you!

Also BEWARE UNDERGROUND PARKING!!!! (See PIX)

william - no other suggestions, but to take your matress(es) and put them up against the windows.

only big hurricaine I've been through was Alicia in the early 80's when I lived in Houston. wasn't too fun.

    William,

I'd get the hell out of there ASAP. After watching reports on CNBC on how big this storm is going to be, I wouldn't want to take any chances.

Hey--I was in Houston when Alicia went over. Was up on my roof during the eye trying to get some plastic over a blown out skylight. Didn't quite get off in time, but that is another story.

I agree with all of the other posts--especially about fresh water. A bucket to flush your toilets with is a good idea (esp if you have a source of other water nearby, like a pool, stream, etc.)

If you are suseptible to this sort of thing, consider mosquito repellent. After Alicia my place was...ah...a bit "ventilated". The mosquitos inside had a field day feasting on me. I had to stop squishing them on the walls--it was leaving red stains.

    Good luck.

Sir, i beseech thee to Get thine Countach and 512 TRs to safe, high ground!

Big Tex is right about the aftermath and possible looting. Have some ammo. Some of the looters in the aftermath of Andrew were supposedly Nat'l Guardsmen as well as regular (regularly disreputable) citizery.

Your concrete highrise should hold up. The stuff has proven itself in Taiwan when the Typhoons roar on by.

Well, I was going to stay & ride out the storm but the Mayor of Miami gave my whole island the boot. So I found a friends house in Naples, Good thing bcus all the hotels are booked. I should have gone to CT for the vintage races :) Too late now.

I'll head back to Miami on Sunday & get some photos of whatever is left of my beautiful city that I love.

The COuntach & the two 512TRs are up in the Northeast so no worries there

    Thanks for the concern guys
