    Hi guys,

I was at the Americana Manhasset Concours d'Elegance last Sunday (the 14th) in New York (I took about 150 pictures, where I uploaded here: http://s1276.beta.photobucket.com/user/TractionControlOff/library/Americana%20Manhasset%20Concours%20d%20Elegance),

but I came up with a few questions while attempting to label the pictures. Please forgive me, as some of these are probably things I should know, but here goes (all questions refer strictly to styling):

How do you tell the 288 GTO from the 308 (I can tell them apart by the indicator lights, is that it?)

How do you identify a 550 from a 575? (This one really stumps me)

What does it mean if a 430 (Scud/Spider/16M) has a pair of double exhaust pipes below the taillights versus two exhaust pipes around the rear license plate?

Thanks and I apologize for wasting a thread for this, but I've been wondering this for a while.

308/288 : It's very easy. The 288 GTO is much more muscular looking than any 308. the fenders are much more pronounced. Also wheels are different. And you can see the GB casing hanging from under the engine at the back. It also has 3 air vents on the rear panel, like a shark.

550/575 : Biggest difference is the headlight cluster.

    550 : http://img2.netcarshow.com/Ferrari-550_Maranello_2001_800x600_wallpaper_05.jpg
    575 : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ferrari_575M_Maranello.jpg

430 : If the tailpipes are in the center of the rear, it's a Scuderia (coupe) or a 16M (Spider). It's the 'racier' version of the regular 430. It's ligher, more powerful, faster gearbox, stiffer suspension...

    whew!

    I'll try...there is no difference in a 550 vs. 575, :D :D :D.....no, the 575 is a later model.
More complex headlights is the key look for that or the flip glass roof of the SuperAmerica, the last of the series.

The flag door mirrors of the 288GTo give it away vs. the 308/328, and as you note the quad driving lights are unique. The whole car is different no common parts, longer frame, the vents behine the rear wheels and the fact you can see the gearbox 'pumpkin' of the longitudinal engine drive train.

Only the final 430, the 16M (all spyders), has the upper mounted F40 style exhausts??

Or does the Scud have them?

The 430 Scud is a coupe, the 16M is the convertible version.

There are several late 550s that 'got' the 575 headlights in production, just to keep you on your toes.

And of course, the rare 550 Barchetta (cut windshield, cloth top)
