    Hi,

just another question on the Mondial 3.2: How can I remove the front bumper and the black spoiler below?
I thought that someone must have written a how to already but could not find anything.

Is it just detaching the wiring of the lower lights and the four nuts behind the front grill and then just pull?

And while we are at it… How does it work with the rear bumper?

    Best regards from Germany.

Attached some pics of images I found on the web.

I've never removed the front bumper. But removing the rear isn't terribly difficult. You should have two people, though.

Remove the three bolts that attach the black wire grate to the bumper. Then get underneath and remove four large 17mm bolts (2 on each side) that attach the bumper to the frame. The bumper will then hang down, because it's now resting on only the pieces that slide into the side brackets (similar to the set up in your first photo). At that point you need two people, with one on each end. You have to slide the bumper out of those slots.

It's not difficult, but, if I remember correctly, it takes some finessing, esp. when you reinstall. Good to have some towels or blankets nearby so you can put it down on something w/o it getting scratched. I also used a jack with something soft for the bumper to rest on while you remove the four big bolts. Less of a risk of having the weight of the thing bend it while it's hanging down.

It looks like the same basic procedure on the front, with maybe some more slips and bolts to remove before you drop the bumper.

    Good luck with it!

Hello from east! :) For the front you first remove grill and then below spoiler. on the following places, but this spoiler is missing cage nuts on these places.. You unbolt it from the inside, meaning to stick you hand in the wheel arche and where you removed the grill and to little screws underneath.

Take out the light units and then it is merely unbolt the 4 bolts on the front grill area. As mentioned before also for the front you will need two people. You can pull it right off, but have a look at some point at the wheel arche if it is not stuck behind something. The front bumpers are very fragile around the light unit so pull carefully.

Wow, thank you guys! That helps a lot! Quite a simple way to unbolt the bumpers. So I understand that I have to remove the grill in the wheel arch and the lower lights in the front. How are the lights attached? Just the visible screws from the outside?

    Kind Regards
    Michel

Unscrew the lenses of the city lights/indicator lights. In there you have two bolts that need to be unbolted. after that you can pull it out. Keep in mind that it is still attached underneath the glass lense area with a push clip, but when you pull it towards you it should come out.

If I were to repaint the black lower front bumper or the other black lower sections - what color would it originally be? Plain matte black, or more a satin type black?

I find the Wurth Satin Black Trim paint is an OEM match.

Here are some additional details for folks who are looking to remove the front bumper on my Mondial. My car is a 83 Mondial QV with a 3.2 bumper and I wanted easier access to the front wiring.
    - The front bumper is indeed held by a) 4 bolts which hold the bumper to the horizontal, longitudinally mounted support bars leading to the frame of the car and b) two plastic brackets on each side of the fenders

    - I did NOT need to remove the front lower valence; I pulled my front bumper off with the lower valence attached as a single piece.
    - The challenge is that the four front bolts are not captured. Even without removing the light housings, you can get to the upper and lower nuts which hold the bolts in place but if you are unlucky (like me, one or more bolts will start spinning before the nuts can be fully removed. Hence, you need to take out the lights.

    Instructions
    1) Unscrew the two philips screws holding the cover onto the front cover to the turn signal indicator (the top one in the 2 light stack).
    2) Unscrew the two flathead screws holding the light in place. There is a third screw below the screw closer to the radiator. Ignore it as it seems to be a way to adjust the angle of the indicator light.
    3) Pull the light assembly forward. BOTH the upper an lower light housings will come off as one piece. The third screw is pushing against a plastic nub on a metal plate.

    4) Remove the metal plate to gain access to the 2 bolts heads on each side. The plate is held in place by 4 small screws

    6) Once the plate is off, you should easily be able to hold the bolts and remove the nuts holding the bumper on with a 17mm ratchet.
    7) You can then pull gently outwards and push fowards on each end of the fender. Two people would make this easy but my trust Harbor Freight lifting table gave me plenty of support
    8) I did find though that I needed to encourage the separation of the bumper to the bumper supports where the 4 bolts go. This was done with a flathead screwdriver/small prybar. I stuck it between the bumper support plate and the bumper, gently pried/pushed the bolts forward, and then the bumper came off and to a rest on my lift table.

    What doesn't work

    - The bumper support is held to the car with a large 23mm bolt on the top. In theory, you can remove the rear bolt and loosen the bracket holding the horizontal bar to the car (two nuts, accessible from underneath in the fenderwell). In theory, you should then be able to remove the whole bumper with these support bars attached without removing the lights However, I tried this and since it probably hasn't been removed since new, they didn't want to budge.
    - The side white plastic things are held to the car with a nut accessible from inside the front trunk area. Don't bother loosening it as it won't really help and the bolt head holding the white plastic piece in place will just spin.

Q: Is the vertical bar on the body/chassis of the vehicle or part of the front bumper assembly? I don't seem to have that on my 3.2 front bumper (there is nothing behind the slats between the lights/front bumper mount points).

    - On my 83 QV coupe chassis, the support is not a vertical bar but a triangular shaped gusset with two "speed holes" to allow airflow into the front radiator (and I suppose for "weight savings").
    - It was already black on my car so I repainted it since I already had the bumper. My car has a 3.2 bumper on a QV so its not exactly an "original example" for comparison; its a better commentary on minor differences between the years.
