How and where can I view 1970s era F1 races (or at least detailed recaps and driver interviews) in good quality?

I'd like to build up on my history and knowledge of the sport, and see how different the races were back then.

I was thinking youtube, but the quality isn't great and was hoping someone knows of a DVD or online source. Thanks!

I recommend the Grand Prix collection. Every season from 1970-1980 on dvd. Very good for the basic information about those years, but it doesn't go very deep. The best information can still be found in books IMO.
    Good luck!

This is about the best you can do for footage... F-1 was scarcely covered back then... by 74 they had TV coverage from the host conuntry ... or at least highlights. I have all these and they are pretty good. the ones from the 70's are an overview but show you the drivers and the cars...

I have the box set and it is as good as it gets.

In the eighties they began making the "Bernie approved" race reviews. Those exist largely on VHS and if you need some, I have a bunch of them left.

Nineties and zeros are available on VHS and DVD, shouldn't be hard to find.

The real trick is finding footage of the fifties and sixties.

Yep, good TV footage from the seventies is difficult to find; I just got a DVD copy a few weeks ago of the full 1977 german Grand Prix, from ten minutes before the race to the podium, without any advertising, in german; quality was average, but that stirred a lot of memories.
I do have a very small number of others races also, like the 1975 german Grand Prix (Germany again...) but you have to rely mainly on friends, etc...and these are mainly copies of Videos put on DVD, so quality is not always there...

    Thanks.

I'm still searching for a Belgian Grand from the years 1950, 1952 and 1953. Any clip would be greatly appreciated.

Officially there is not a lot of footage but unofficially there is a lot, mostly taken from original broadcasts. Quality is usually surprisingly good (for a 40 year old film). Lots of races around from the 60s and 70s including the whole 1971 Italian Grand Prix!

    Example:
