In light of the last story that I just read about not going to a car wash with my Ferrari. Does anyone have a good technique on how to detail my engine, or give it a good bath without doing any damage?

Don't let them inside the engine bay. I'm now remembering them boasting that they would 'detail' in there too, so they may have power washed it.

    Wrap distributor in plastic.
Use spray can Gunk. Use a hand brush for crusty areas. Take your time.
    Absolutly NO preassure washers.
Blow dry with low PSI air or sop up water in cavities with a rag.
Incredibly it is better not to wash the engine for all the disasters waiting associated with water.
    Cheers.

    What's the cost of a V-12 rebuild? $20k-$25k?
What's the cost of a new V-12? Double that? Don't think they're around.
This is a Ferrari motor! Don't shortcut, take your time(even if it takes 25-50 hrs.), you WILL be rewarded!
FYI, for those hard to get to places, work the dampened paper towel into the tough spots with a cedar shim or dowel rod(of whatever dia.&length you need), do NOT use screwdrivers or other metal instruments that could scratch.

Remember, you should be able to eat off of your engine when you are done!!! ;) That's what they are there for after all.

    Regards,

    Art S.

PS. use soft towels and soft brushes.

Just when I had thoughts about taking out the dunk and the power washer.
I want to thank you all for responding. You saved me, my Ferrari and my pocket book from what could have been a major diasater.
