In preparation for my 3000 mile trip in a 328 that I don't have yet I'm trying to figure out where I can carry stuff. It would be helpful to know how wide a suitcase I could sit on the passenger seat. In addition to my clothes, etc, I will be carrying a violin in a case, a backpack with camera/computer gear, some tools, and a car cover. The violin cannot go in the luggage compartment due to heat. I'd prefer that the backpack didn't for the same reason though it would probably be OK. I'm hoping that the the suitcase, violin and backpack will all fit on the pass seat/floor. I'm thinking that the cover will take up a good bit of the luggage area but I don't know for sure since I haven't actually seen it yet.

Another useful measurement would be the LxWxH of the luggage compartment.

I need this in advance because I am flying Sunday to PPI/pick up the car on Monday/Tuesday so I want to know what to take with me suitcase-wise.

    Thanks for any help!

22 inches, console to passenger door. The door panel angles in a bit, so maybe 20-21 inches as you get further above the seat bottom.

Regarding luggage, a long soft-sided duffel is your best bet. I don't take long trips in mine, so can't be much help to you there. But it does get hot. Maybe keep the toiletries in the passenger footwell.

No, not THAT kind of "violin!" I don't have any room for one of those. Hmm..a 328 with a gun rack. Bet THAT's not too common! :)

Thanks for the seat measurements! I have a "soft" clothing bag so I'll use that. I don't think I'll be packing any heavy clothes - it's supposed to be around 110 in Las Vegas over the next week. Should give that just-serviced a/c a good workout (not too mention the engine cooling system)!

Leave room for cute female hitchikers, hate to see you leave the violin on the shoulder of the road.....:D
