Don't the oil companies post quarterly profits? If so, how are they going to justify ANY profit after expenses when the rest of us are draining our wallets dry just to fill up the tank?

What excuse will the FAT CAT oil companies use next for sitting on their gold plated throne with a "let them eat cake" attitude?

It is all supply and demand.

These producers that can drill oil for $15/bbl are making $55/bbl profit. HUGE PROFIT. But is it their fault? They are not price fixing.

But the key is with crude at $70/bbl, if you "could" drill for $40/bbl, you can make a lot of money. So we will see a lot of oil supply in 3-5 years now that and that will help take the pressure off these prices. So now the marginal producers will come online. Of course, if these marginal guys are pumping crude at a cost of $35/bbl and crude drops below $30/bbl, they will lose money. Risk/Reward. I think the profit margins are ridiculous, but I also think the end of this rally in crude is very near

They seem perfectly happy posting monsterous profits.

Exactly. And rub it in our faces. And we can't do **** because we, the little guys driving can't stick together enough to affect the demand. And transport companies can't do that either because ... well ... they need gas to stay in business ... and there's the whole manufacturing thing ... same thing. Face it. We depend on oil. They can bend us over, add some sand for good measure, and we'll still be saying "thanks, I need some more".
I should seek a job at an oil co. :D

I'm sure they'll do what all other BIG BIZ has been doing for decades...They'll hide it through accounting scandals and we will be the one holding the short end of the stick. I despise the oil companies for what they doing right now. Hopefully the next president won't be so attached to OIL PROFITS and will put these a'holes in their place.

Honestly, if I recall many oil companies give decent dividends too.

In eastern Canada, all of the major gas companies are "redoing" their gas stations. Rebuilding the stores and pumps and running a billion T.V. and radio ads everyday for about 2 months now. WEEEEEHOO! I'm glad they have enough money for themselves! It would be a shame if I don't know, somehow, it was possible to keep some of our money? please?
