With; 1) Paddle shifted manual, single clutch 2) Paddle shifted manual, dual clutches 3) 6-speed with non-ceramic clutch 4) CVT 5) Exactly how it is now 6) Automatic (if you choose this option, then quickly log off of F-Chat and never return!) My choice would be #2) Paddle shifted manual, dual clutches, preferably ceramic clutches if that is possible. Okay, same question for the McLaren SLR, Ferrari Enzo, and McLaren F1.
Could you explain the single clutch and dual clutches differences? P.S. I like the idea behind the CVT.
Ill Keep my Carrera GT how it is in Paint to Scheme Signal Yellow exterior, Black interior, Red Calipers. The Perfect Carrera GT
Single clutch is what Ferrari uses with their F1, Lamborghini with their E-Gear, and BMW with their SMG. Toyota even had a simplified version available in the MR-2 Spyder. Dual clutch was developed by Audi (called DSG), and also used in the Bugatti Veyron. I've never driven one, but from what I have read, it sounds as if it is the best setup for a clutchless manual. One clutch is reponsible for gears 1,3, and 5, whereas the other is responsible for the remaining gears. So basically, a clutch is always on standby for the next gearchange, whether it be a gear higher, or lower. It is supposed to be super fast, and incredibly smooth. It also is supposed to feel like an automatic in the automatic mode.
I would take the Carerra GT EXACTLY the way that it is. This car is a pure sports cars and needs to be driven that way. I have not been afforded the opportunity to drive wither car yet but from what I understand the clutch is heavy and lets go all at once with all the power that V10 has so you need to be on your game to drive it or the car will bite. This is what having a high power sports car should be all about...my 17 year old sister should NOT be able to drive it. The SLR is a different car entirely. This is a GT car and as such should be either an automatic or a paddle shifted F1 set up. The SLR shares more in common with the Continental GT than it does with the CGT or the McLaren F1.
Well stated, I completely agree. Part of the charm of the CGT is that there is a learning curve to driving it and that not everyone can jump in and just drive it. I'm very happy that Porsche offered a traditional manual instead of the paddle shift F1 type transmission.
keep it the way it is! my ride in one was amazing!!!!! It has to be one of the greatest cars ever built. I loved every moment i was in it. Just sitting still at a traffic light felt like you were going reaaaaally fast.
Lets see.... I would like my Carrera GT like the one I am sitting in in the picture below, Red/Black. As for the Enzo--Red on black! the SLR---Black on Red!!! The Mclaren F1? Actually....no thanks! Ive never relaly been a fan of this car. Honestly, if someone gave me the Mclaren, I would sell it and buy an Enzo, 430 and then see how much cash I have after that and make my desicion on what to buy next..... With the DSG from a Bugatti Veyron... It would be black, with black wheels, and black brake calipers.
LOL, I know, I know. I look really short in those pictures, but Im actually about 5'9/5'10. Ive got an average height, but I was surprised how low I sat in that car!
i would like just the way porsche designed it now...and of course with the fully manual , proper 6 speed....i still get bored with all auto, and f1 type trannies, be it the smd, dsg, f1, e gear, cvt, tipronic, etc....heck, i think an enzo would be more fun to drive if had a regular manual tranny....
Lucky Basterd got to sit in a Guards Red Carrera GT!!! You wouldn't happen to have the Production Number would you?
actually i like guard red porsches....its my third favorite red behind corsa rossa, and lambo red.....i am not crazy about the bmw imola red...its too dead of a color.........
I would prefer my Carrera GT had a DSG transmission if I could afford one. I think the DSG transmission would help me handle all the power the Carrera GT has available. If I was a professional race car driver I would want Porsche to keep the car exactly like they have it now. I was lucky enough to try the the DSG transmission in an Audi TT about a two years ago. I loved it. The shifts were smooth and quick. In automatic mode it was great as well. Unfortunately, I have never had a chance to try Ferrari's F1, Maserati's version or BMW's SMG transmission so I cannot compare the DSG to the others. I really hope Maserati goes the dual clutch route. I think a DSG type transmission could help Maser sell more cars. But maybe that is discussion for another thread. For all of those who have never tried a DSG equipped car I suggest you go to an Audi Dealership and test drive an A3 or a TT equipped with a DSG transmission. I think you won't be disappointed.
I aswell am a fan of Guards Red and it is also my third favorite shade of red. Firs being Rossa Corsa, Followed by Rossa Scuderia and then comes Guards Red. But my favorite Standard color on the Carrera GT would have to be Fayance Yellow!
Exactly how it is now. Black or red....yellow calipers. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Porsche carrera GT woud have to have paddles with either yellow/black silver/black or silver/red and or white/black or white/red and red would be nice as well with black leather. No black ext. though. The paddle shifting is pretty sweet in all the cars with it (I've driven an audi and a lexus that had this setup) also CVT is great audi uses it in the a4 and I liked driving with the cvt also most hybrids use cvt as well.
