admin said you can clear your internet history cache and that will solve that problem. I haven't tried it yet. he also said if problems with ferrarichat.com it is still pointing to old IP. I don't understand how www.ferrarichat.com could work and not ferrarichat.com, to me that indicates something on our side like the MX record you say, but admin says ferrarichat.com is working for him.

+1 My bad. Sorry about that.

+1 I've never seen a delay like described - I didn't even know you were making money on those clicks it's so transparent! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

I noticed that last night right before I went to bed the FerrariChat side was down so 23:00 Pacific Time. This morning all was well once I cleared the cache. I even posted from Ferrari101 with no headaches. I will try to set all my bookmarks to the secure https option now that it is an option. The S is not resolving just yet though. -sc

    Patience!...... :)

Seems like we're in remarkably good shape though - Kudos (for once!) to the admin!

[Having said that, Rob diligently ignored my Q re # of nasty-grams received - The error page last night (while the maps propagated) said to contact "admin@fchat".......]

    Cheers,
    Ian

Ahh, OK. If he's still your admin - ie, he hasn't quit and/or you fired him, then life is good....

I do have put posts in search engine off on the eBay ads forum, not sure why they showed up. I don't want them to.

It's working great here... and I'm glad to see any login problems for regular http users were short-lived.

https works perfectly to this address: but not to https://www.ferrarichat.com or, say, https://ferrarichat.com.

This is fine. Users who want a secure, encrypted connection just need to explicitly use the bolded link shown above.

Rob: Many thanks for this. It will be a relief when traveling, and I'm sure many users will appreciate it. The alternative of sending my login credentials in the clear while using some public wifi or a hotel network is just scary.

I will continue to test it.

On Chrome address bar, I get a red slash through https and red X on secure symbol. This is true even after clearing cache.

On Firefox address bar, it appears to be normal https and secure symbol. Cache was not cleared beforehand.

I think this is due to some of the page elements _not_ being encrypted. Could be stuff that's fetched from other locations or the like. I want to investigate this. Full report when I have time :)

OK, quick investigation suggests that the images (background colors, little embedded graphics that are part of the page layout) are coming over via http instead of https. IMO this is not a concern, I am chiefly concerned with password security and identity and the text all seems to be encrypted. Also, some of the content from third-party sites (e.g. viglink) is not encrypted... I don't think this is an issue.

Must try it with chrome next, presently using Firefox. Again, I think the security-relevant content is being correctly encrypted.

This isn't the first time I've seen a thread like this, and we've all seen the flame jobs some new members have received upon asking what some regulars here consider layman questions, or questions not worth new threads when answers are buried in the archives (archives that the search function doesn't always and accurately filter).

So instead of, or addition to, model-specific moderators, why not have embassadors* for each model-specific forum. Someone who knows a lot (Terry Philips comes to mind) of the answers to a lot of the questions that new members will invariably ask. This will promote a welcoming attitude to the forum, and it will undoubtedly encourage more lurkers and occasional posters to participate more regularly if they see that people aren't being crucified for asking questions that have been asked before.

Having a boat load of stickies in each model-specific subforum can be overwhelming, and having one sticky with a boat load of information can be just as overwhelming. Having an embassador* of sorts in each model-specific subforum, whose sole "moderator" responsibility would be to field these questions, would add a great deal of value. Embassadors* could even quote the original question and reword it in their reply in a format consistent with yielding positive search results in the future (full VINs, proper terms, etc.).

    It's both actually.

    embassador is an accepted variant.

    Just ask Webster.

Carb, I've noticed on plenty of occasions that spell check is just wrong. I guess the folks who make the lists miss some.

They live in an embassy. They are embassadors.

Also can be an ambassador. But they don't live in an ambassy. :D
