So I searched "308 timing belts". More than 250 results. Probably more than 10K results total. Reason, the "OR" operator that can't be changed to "AND". So if you search "308 timing belts" every thread with "308" in it appears in the results.

That's odd. I did advance search and titles only and I got what I posted, yours seem all relevant with all the 3 key words in the thread title, not what I got, here is the search screen I started from:

I enter "broken timing belts" and specify 308/328 forum. Got 62 threads.

I entered "burned out exhaust manifold" in 355 forum and got 9 threads.

All the info on either topic I can stand.

I have used search a lot. It never lets me down.

Like I said, it is an archive with years of info on every subject here. If people are too lazy to use it, wipe it clean and free up the space.

Use advanced search. Use a 2 or 3 word description and select the 308/328 forum. If you get to much information add another word to your description.

As i recently sold my 308 back in the fall of 2013 I started looking for a similar form for Jaguar. I joined on in Sept and it had a membership of around 25,000 members world wide. The form breaks down similar to FChat with the various models and years being represented. It also has similar user sections and sponsor along with search functions for each model group. Membership is free and there is no limit to the amount of pictures you can submit. The form is limited to Jaguars of all types and does not have any political or off topic areas or groups. The active members in the late model XK group is maybe 20-30 and as for the other groups I have not looked into them. They also list the WW Jaguar clubs and their contacts along with any events for the future. I think the main difference is the group is not a business , it is free to be a member , it has no data limit for photo's and it speaks only to the various Jaguar model . There are no private member only groups and no politics discussed. I have also recently joined an Audi group which has a similar type of setup. Just my observation.

F Cars tried a free/club approach. it hasn't worked that great, here is their post traffic trend over the years. it certainly can work for others, a club type forum is just like any club. if you avoid politics, infighting, and people are willing to work hard for nothing, then it works. FerrariChat has annoying ads to some and you can buy a subscription for additional value to you, but we still try to keep most things free to use.

In regards to images, are you allowed to "upload" an unlimited amount of images to their server? Every single other car forum out there does images through IMG tags, meaning the image has to be hosted elsewhere. Every other car forum out there has got it wrong too. When those locations go bad, then the images stop appearing. On FerrariChat the images will always be available as long as no data corruption or loss.

Then if you don't want to talk about it again, then stay out of the thread. But please, let everyone who does want to talk about have the pleasure to do so. Why do you think we should not have that privilege or pleasure? Why should it be left to the people who talked about it first? What harm is there? Who is hurt? Who is offended? What is the loss to anyone?

What is the point of stopping discussion? What?

Just ignore us if it's not doing anything for you.

Yep. I tried getting round it by making the post then going back & editing -> go advanced -> manage attachments (again). It let me upload a second pic, but overwrote the first!
visit this site How to create your own humidification system

I think this may be a new issue in IOS, if you're, let's say 'replying' to someone and then go to another tab in the (Safari at least) browser, when you return to Fchat it's a blank page and your typing is gone! Really annoying in a long post! I've tried going back & reloading, but all my hard work seems to have vaporized!

I don't think it used to behave that way(?)

See the recent thread we had in 360/430 section, result of all that we'll have tags [360], [430], and [360/430] for every thread. We'll do same for 348 and 355.

I don't know if something like this has already been discussed here or if it would even be easy to implement, but because most inquiries regarding "recommendations for ..." usually go without any "final/full closure", could some kind of "reminder" or "request" to report back be directed at OP after they've asked recommendations for various services, i.e. mechanics, services, shops etc.
This could help partially eliminate continuously recurring similar inquiries and perhaps help prevent "affiliated/biased" recommendations. It could also help other members to learn about the integrity and/or quality expectations of the giver of a specific recommendation for future reference, i.e. one could search final outcomes of all given recommendations from statistics of members involved with specific inquiry or issue.

For example, if I were to ask recommendations for mechanics, services or shops in area X and after receiving, lets say, 4 different choices, few weeks(?) later I would receive a notice limiting or prohibiting further posting unless I report my findings to that thread.
Report should perhaps include if and whom I chose and/or give brief summary as to why and, better yet, why not the "others". Of course, no need to be nasty about any of it. Something simple like "I chose shop X due to its convenient location, didn't follow up with others" or "Visited/inspected/talked with all recommended entities, but chose X due to following reasons: One of two (other being shop Y) that could accommodate my schedule and ..." or even "Initially I chose shop A due to x,y,z, but wasn't pleased with results, so I went to shop B which was able to sort everything to my expectations" and so on...

And while on the subject. This is probably even more unlikely to be implemented, but banning or at least discouraging all discussions, post, sections and threads not directly linked to the forums namesake subject (and I don't mean Chat) would definitely appear as improvement. Well, maybe not for Rob ;)

I don't know where the quirk resides but not having repeated thread alerts posted would be nice.
When done posting on an active race thread there are individual notifications for every post made. Which is a lot.

I don't think mandatory reports would be helpful. The most useful ones are voluntary and I worry about the accuracy/detail of forced ones. Furthermore, people would then feel aggrieved rather than warm towards the community of we were forcing them to make disclosures.

You can change the thread notification emails from instant to daily if that would help.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    Well yes I could.

Ashamed that it didn't occur to me but then I'd have to change it back.

While I'm at it. I get repeated post alerts for unopened threads while I go through my morning updates.
At my advanced age it confuses me.
    ;)

And another thing. Why do some threads not open at first unread? Funny pics for one always opens at the top of the current page. Usually at an old post or if the page has turned, at a post newer than ones I haven't read. In either case its top of page.

Thanking you in advance for all prior accommodation.
    :)

LOL - I suspect the elves are in league with the wizards. :)

More seriously, that happens to me too and I don't know why.

Some anomaly with the thread parameters I imagine. I don't know how much reengineering it would take to fix it.
Its apparent that the formatting (?) of the threads has changed over time. Some of the older ones have quirks absent in more recent ones.

Programming remains something of a cottage industry. A lot more hand fashioning than you'd expect.

Yes, I understand, but perhaps even a "friendly" encouragement/reminder for members to report their experience back to "community" would be helpful for my aforementioned reasons.
Way too often we (or at least I) see requests for recommendations, but with no real follow up it's impossible to tell whether the OP took upon any and/or if said recommendations were useful or not.
Perhaps run occasional "ad" or "community service announcements" regards to this at the top of the pages, just like those of "sponsors". Maybe Rob can figure out a way write them off as business expense. LOL

I believe that's because any and all uploads from an iPad give the image name of "image.jpg". So, the second one simply overwrites the first..... Silly I agree, but more an iOS issue than an Fchat issue I believe. The (somewhat annoying) workaround is to add another post with yet another "image.jpg" attachment.

I hear you!.... That exact thing has caught me out enough times that I now copy anything into the buffer before switching tabs! Then, when I come back, if it's hosed me, at least I can paste my hard work back in again!.....

What's really confusing though is it's not consistent - at least for me, it will load a blank page, but hitting the 'back' button a few times will indeed (sometimes!) reload my draft. Other times it won't! Also happens if I'm writing one of my long dissertations and get logged out - the back button makes everything good again!

I *suspect* it's got something to do with what you do on the other tab(s) while "gone". Just viewing seems ok, but loading stuff, filling a form or similar seems to screw it up.....

    Cheers,
    Ian
