Judging by the amount of pictures that show up as links (as opposed to pictures), Im going to say the majority of users use a third party photo hosting site like Photobucket or smugmug etc. I understand that you want to host the pictures here to preserve the thread. If a member removes a picture from their photobucket account, the picture also vanishes here. Its your site, do as you see fit. But by looking at how many picture links there are here.....it would be a welcome change.
Unsubscribed users have to post links when their picture upload limit is reached. It may be an idea, that when someone uploads a large pic from a link, that the forum software converts it to 800x600, and automatically link the smaller pic to the original large one. If the original disappears, there is still the 800x600 on the forum server.
Thumbs up & thumbs down buttons (or like & dislike buttons)... idk, maybe its childish or not really a contribution, but sometimes I read something & I just want to express "cool" or "ugh"...
This would be nice Sometimes I hop up and down thinking "new thread" and then figure out later someone commented about something from years ago.
yes, search engine sucks, but we're limited from the base software. we could switch to XenForo, but then the old timers would complain about the look change. here's an example of one of my forums on XenForo. http://www.bassbuck.com what do you mean standard format for sale section? we have tried ad software in past, but they were nightmares not supported after awhile and bugs. switching to the forum format has been best thing we've done headache wise, but we have given up form like entry and also user edits (after 60 minutes).
we can't stick 50 threads per forum, then users would have to go to page 2 or 3 before hitting new threads.
if users post enough pics (7.5 mb limit) and don't want to subscribe for 4 cents a day to get unlimited pics, then I don't have much compassion for them. that solution might be good, but technically not feasible. I still don't understand why users want high resolution unless they are stealing the photos.
the internet has gone the way of "likes", but FChat is old school and users like Pap and NNO have gone to tens of thousands of posts with one word.
If people posting mentioned the model and year of their car first it would be helpful. As the post above about the "strange noise" This is a user issue, not an F chat issue. My problem is the search section, I always end up way out in left field reading about some Lambo and was searching for 355 info. Some people say this has been discussed numerous times so DO A SEARCH. I really appreciate the users who jump right in and send me a link or the info I am unable to find on my own. Also a sticky with nothing but repair/maintenance videos/pictures would permit me to waste away many more hours of my day on F chat. Pictures pacify my simple mind, there are some serious experienced mechanics on here and it goes over my head fast. Hell the girl at the front desk at my Indy shop knows TONS about Ferrari's but she can say it so I can understand it
So Rob could the F chat brain trust come up with there "own" for sale blank form, not mandatory but a "recommended" format ? All those things we always ask about after someone posts their car. Mileage ? Maintenance records ? Etc. It drives me nuts when someone states "Major" service 300 miles ago ..... and then someone asks when ? and the OP say 2009, it has not been driven much in the last 6 years.
Totally understandable, but can you move it to 308/328 section? I'll buy you a drink if you come here 😜
yes, there is certainly a balance. users need to try harder searching upfront, but the search engine sucks. there is an art to it and you can use Google in public forums to search FerrariChat.com. rarely is there something I can't find, just take the right approach with Advanced Search. After a user registers one of the suggestions is to make good thread titles and most veteran users have it figured out, but there are some that don't and they pay the price less views. one or two sticky threads a section OK, beyond that then a master list of threads in single sticky best. I hate stickies and watching user behavior over the years it is sure way to kill a thread, users look right over stickies.
Actually I'd like to see better integration with Tapatalk. More people on mobiles now and it's much easier to read Tapatalk than normal web page on your smartphone. Things like search, poll threads, user details etc can be better addressed in the Tapatalk app. When you search in an individual sub-forum, after 2 to 3 pages loaded, it will somehow repeat the results. You can't see and won't know the polls in the poll threads until some replies reveal it. Things like that will make it more enjoyable for mobile mainly user like myself.
I need to check the Tapatalk versions, but we have kept up pretty good. If it is a problem using Taptalk, then it is a problem with Tapatalk and not FerrariChat. What phone and browser do you use? I have Tapatalk for users that like it, but personally I hate it. FerrariChat is great just on my little iPhone 5S screen and Safari.
Since FChat promotes Tapatalk ;-) I'm on iPhone 5 with updated Tapatalk. Safari works fine. I like Tapatalk as its easier to manipulate and easier to read with bigger fonts/magnifications etc.
Any chance you could add an option to restrict access to "garage"? Or, maybe it is there, but I am unable to find it...? For instance, it could be nice to have an option to grant access to groups such as - all - friends - registered users - silver subscribed users - rossa subscribed users - verified owners
