How wrong would a trailer be?

  1. It’s wrong and your keys should be taken for even thinking it.

  2. It’s fine as long as you like looking like a woodchuck.

  3. It’s acceptable as long as nothing but race tires is EVER on the trailer.

  4. I don’t understand the problem? I use mine to haul gravel all the time….

So how wrong would it be to hook a trailer to a 308? I like to autocross it and I want to be able to race on race tires, but I don’t want to drive it on the race tires. I don’t have a vehicle that could tow the car, so right now I need a chase vehicle, which is a pain.

I’ve seen little trailers that are just big enough for 4 tire…very practical, but putting a trailer on a Ferrari just seems wrong…but if it’s a trailer full of race tires, it might not be quite so wrong?

I know someone who has a tire trailer on a Ford GT40 :)

I think Martin used to just pile extra tires on the engine hood :) like some crazed German redneck pickup LOL He just needed a rifle rack in the back window to go all the way

Look, if you are a serious autocrosser, you can't drive your best race tires on the road even if they say you can. Any moisture at all will make the trip very dangerous. You can get a harder compound with more tread that is a better compromise but will cost you a few tenths. But a 308 is not a serious autocross car (too heavy) so I can see why you'd catch some flack for having a trailer.

Actually, I seem to remember that he competes and has won in SM2 with that supercharged 308. Stock, the 328/308 is killed for sure running in BS

Mark, do it... If someone has something to say, just smile and keep going about what you do... Be a trail blazer and not a follower like those b!tch posers who would rather go buy a TRUCK AND A TRAILER just so they don't have to drive their cars...

No real info in that thread anyway, just bitching. I am going to look into it again now that I have a bit of spare time.

DO IT and in fact i will be doing the same thing next year. Below shows this really sexy trailer. It is retro and amazing. Plan to make sure the paint matched the 308QV.

    http://www.tab-rv.com/index.php

This is their Aluminum model and weighs 1939 lbs so should be fine with Fcar, especially if you uprated the brakes.

oops! misread the poll, thought that it implied trailering the Ferrari, not the otherway around. I've towed my F355 cross country on an open trailor behind my tow vehicle. I'd NEVER put a trailer on the Ferrari!

I think it would show yu don't take yourself so seriously and that you are really interested in racing. It seems okay to me.

Is there not a warning or caution in the Ferrari manual that states not to tow off the frame? Some sports car manufactures that point out not to trailer due to the unaccounted stress tolerances of the frame.

Having run behind Mark's car, it is in fact a pretty serious car.

Last I looked, his particular 308 was making 450+ HP. (check his profile.:))

Stick a trailer on there and go for it!!

Hell ya! Do it and then show us the pictures.

I saw a C5 Corvette towing a Harley the other day, very cool. If that doesn't make you do a double take, nothing will.

I didn't see that your car was heavily modded...I was thinking ASP or something. Sure; get the hitch and make 'em laugh until you take the trophy home!

Go for it. Especially if you're gonna be towing tires!!!
I'd still make sure it doesn't cause any dangerous structural stress ...

I'll have to take a good long look at the mounting, but I'm only talking a 100-150 lb trailer with 150 lb of tires on it....I just can't believe it would bother anything.

I'm thinking about something like what Tillman posted, that either bolts off easily or is hidden behind the bumper when not in use.

a 450 hp 308 with a trailer hitch. Thats a one of a kind!!! I love it! I say do it and if anyone has a problem with it, tell them you'll race them with the trailer! (Just bring a video cam if you do).

There was a porsche around here that used to show up to autox with a small aluminum trailer, 4 rims on and a small toolbox on it.

The muffler's kind of in the way, but there are some good frame points to weld to back there on the 308. Might be time to drop the stock can and swap to two small separate ones, put the hitch in between them.

Agreed and come to think about it, my idea of a 2k lbs trailer is probably too much for a 308 :(
