I ordered 2 of the 16GB versions last night on the WM site, one for my wife and one for myself and received confirmation for my order. This AM, I received the "we're sorry" email because they oversold them. I'm pretty annoyed because I wanted them for us, not to flip. I guess on the bright side, there will be 250k of them on ebay in the next week, so hopefully I'll be able to get one for $100-125

Looks like late tonight Best Buy decided to indeed sell the Touchpads at the reduced prices! Crap.

I think the decision was made around 9:30pm EDT. I hope my local stores didn't sell out already. Guess I know what I'll be doing in the morning. Argh!

Most of the stores around here sold out before they closed!

Yeah, I just now realized that would be the case.

I did just pick up at 32GB one off craigslist just now for $200. I figured that isn't much more than I would have paid at $149+tax anyway. The guy selling it bought 4 of them today.

I'm still holding out hope that I'll find a 16 or two but not holding my breath. However, I'm also concerned whether I can return/sale the 32s.

I was looking on staples.com this morning and check out this price. I'm not sure what's required to get the coupon but note it isn't shown for the 32. Imagine getting 'em for $49!

Friend of mine that struck out yesterday picked up 3 at Best Buy this morning, 2 16GBs and 1 32.

He told me too late and my local BB was sold out right after they opened. :(

And to some degree Best Buy. Though they still sold their inventory, albeit a day late, there are some mad folks and I'm not exactly thrilled. My mom sat outside BB yesterday waiting for them to open and was one of the first people in the store only to be told the "we sent them back to HP" story. Fortunately we were able to get her one at the Office Depot across the street but that was a 32 GB and we wanted 16s.

Fast forward to this morning and my local BB magically has them in stock. The rep I talked to said they had 25 units that were on-site yesterday but packed on a truck in the loading area for return. It wasn't until this morning that he was notified to unload the product and sell it at the discount.

I'm reasonably confident that if BB had sold them yesterday my mom and I combined would be $150 richer b/c we could have bought three 16s instead of the 32s we bought elsewhere.

    Ahhhh! Don't tell me that.

I didn't even bother to go to my local BB this morning figuring these was no way possible that they had any left in stock.! :D :D

Yeah, my thoughts too until I heard from my friend. I'm kindof miffed (strong word :D) at him b/c he didn't tell me about Best Buy when he heard about it. We have different local stores and I could have been at mine when it opened. He knew (or so I thought he understood) I was still searching for 16s and the irony is that I'm the one that first told him about the deal on Friday night! Geez, I gotta pick/train my friends better.

Hard to believe. I was an early adopter. I wasn't watching it like a hawk, but I happened to be in the store on launch day. I haven't yet tweaked my Touchpad; but was an avid Palm Pre tweaker; and loved it!

The device is by far the best email and web browsing tablet on the market. Bar none. It slaughters both iPad and Android devices for intuitive use, full flash websites, multiple browser multi-tasking etc. etc.

Best Buy has also treated me VERY well. They have discounted me the launch day price to today's liquidation price with no problems at all. On top of that, HP also gave me $50 worth of free apps from the market.

The device is fantastic, and have Zero complaints :) I'm sad I only heard about this today, as I would have bought my mom and dad one for Christmas if I could find any. I heard there was a line of 40 people to get the 20 they had in stock at the local store.

I reaaly, reaaly wish that webos had taken hold. I believe it is by far the best smartphone and pad os out there. I was first in line when the pre came out and hung on to it for a couple of years, waiting and hoping that some new hardware would come out. That it would take off so developers would develop on it. But it went the way of betamax.

I was thinking, what if this whole thing was just a stunt by hp to get touchpads out to the world. I know its not, but look at the interest now in what is supposedly a dead platform.

Hopefully webosinternals will continue to put out some great mods.

Well, I ended up getting a 32 off craigslist. Paid $200. Figure with tax I'd have paid close to that anyway. Using it to post this right now. Makes me miss my pre, sort of...

Congrats; now you need a case. This one is only a penny: http://www.amazon.com/CaseCrown-Faux-Reptile-Sleeve-Black/dp/B004QJQ8UM/ref=sr_1_14?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1313978998&sr=1-14 :D

Let me know your thoughts on any good apps, ideally free.

I'm looking for one that allows handwritten meeting note taking but on first look I didn't see one.

My son downloaded Angry Birds and the F1 calendar while he was playing with it.

The "wallpaper switcharoo lite" is neat.

Also, thoughts on screen protectors? This is my first tablet and not sure how delicate the screens are.

download webos doctor for the touchpad, get preware, and look into homebrew :)

homebrew includes patches for existing apps, os options, and full on alfa/beta testing/free apps that aren't in the app market.

Ugh, I just can't let it go and tried to send BB an angry but respectful email thru customer service and I don't think it went thru b/c the submission page just stayed blank.

I came across their community forum, http://www.forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Tablets-eReaders/bd-p/tablets, and I see I'm not alone..

Let it go, let it go, let it go...not working, not working, not working...just like BB's customer service.

You are more obsessed than I am!

You know what is going to happen...HP is going to release 100,000 of them soon and you will be able to get as many as you want...

I believe this just goes to show that although there are a lot of people out there that would like a tablet PC, the cost barrier is just too high.

When most people already have laptops, it is probably difficult to justify spending another $400-600+ on yet one more device.

At $100, everyone wants one. I suspect the sweet spot is somewhere around $200-400 for a decent mid range Tablet. I know I would be extremely tempted to take the plunge at around the $300 range for a decent Android tablet.

$300, and marketing. If you can find a Touchpad for 300 or under, and you primarily would use it for web and email, I can't stress enough how much better it is than an android tablet.

For a ~$250 android tablet, just get a barnes and noble nook color. You can root (jailbreak) it with CM7, and it becomes a fully functioning android tablet. It's not the fastest tablet, and it doesn't have camera/gps, but for basic netsurfing, email, etc it works great.

    My wife loves hers.

I called the HP store Saturday, and I was told there would be some released on Wednesday. It's best to phone in an order, because they won't be canceled (but the online orders can be if the tablets are oversold).

If you call HP, they will take your name and email address - then send you an alert when the tablets are going to be released. 888-921-6721

They started selling them here for 99€ yesterday. HP store is unreacheable since. Shows they competence as a SAAS/cloud computing provider! ;)
