If anyone is curious, I just had a chance to put a couple of HRE wheels on a scale without tires mounted. I guess my digital bathroom scale (which is almost new), can't be super accurate, because, despite having a decimal point, it returned exactly the same result for the front and back wheel, which in this particular case are configured to be .5 inch different. I weighed each wheel twice, and the results were exactly the same:

    HRE 505, 16 x 7.5 and 16 x 8: 18lbs.

Before anyone asks about the widths, I just picked up the wheels, haven't used them or mounted tires yet, and have an extra set of outer barrels in a wider width. The previous owner set them up in the current configuration and used a 225/245 tire combination. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

No rush for me, as I'm enjoying the 328 wheels I currently have mounted!

Yep, that's about what I came up with too. I've recorded it somewhere. I've got 16x7's and 16x8's, and IIRC, they were about 18.5#. Nice to have extra barrels to change your widths. What size options can you make with the extra barrels? 225/245 setup would work great...I'm running 215 in the front right now and get a bit too much understeer in slow corners.

I originally thought that I could end up with 7.5 and 8.5 with the wider barrels, but after some quick measurements I think I'm wrong. I think my extra set will just turn the 7.5 inch fronts into another pair of 8 inch wheels, matching the rears (which I would not do). I'll have to measure more carefully. I thought that 7.5/8.5 would work really nicely with a 225/245 setup. I'm sure a 225 will work very nicely with the 7.5 inch front, but I feel like an 8 inch rear is a little narrow for a 245 tire. I know people do run 245s on the stock 8 inch rears though... Opinions?

Yeah, the 7.5/8.5 would be ideal...

I've been running 245/50 in the 8" rears for years w/o any issues. The slightly larger dia fills in the wheel well better and it drops the revs a bit at cruising speeds. On the down side, it probably hurts the acceleration times fractionally.

    Thanks for posting that.
I have 505's on my car with 225/245 combo. Looks great and no problems with fit or rub.
To me 505 is the best looking wheel for a 308 (yes, better than stock in my eyes)

Etip: Do you know what widths your 505s are?
