What do you recommend for a larger one? I currently have an AOC 19” 4:3. What to get wide screen to be larger – at least 21” old school like NEC HD at work? I’ve always liked Samsung. You? This wide screen conversion...

Cool - esp for gaming! Ok, I have a 60" Sony TV but I want to fit this on my computer desk - say within a 3 foot width. But there is a balance between how much you can take in up close and dimension of viewing area.

That 60 inch sony will probably have a maximum resolution of 1920 X 1080, less than any decent 25" widescreen monitor.

The apple 30" monitors are nice, but resource hungry. Two of those make for acres of space to monitor multiple apps simultaneously. Dell's bigger screens also give you plenty of bang for the buck.

Yes I know - but it is very important. I'm looking for both size and quality! Never had a widescreen and am looking forward to Photoshop menus having their own space.

I think 24" WUXGA(1920x1200) monitors are the sweet spot right now. Big, high res(I don't like 1080x1200), and relatively cheap. I have several Samsung 24" monitors, so can recommend them. Depending upon usage reqs, you might even consider one with a few bad pixels. Off of ebay, can be really cheap.

I've got an Acer H233H, and I love it. They can be found for 200$, and has HDMI, DVI, and VGA inputs. Runs at 1920x1080.

A lot depends on if you want a big monitor or if you want a big monitor with higher resolution. Just a big monitor won't give you any larger desktop space - just everything will be enlarged.

I run a 24" samsung monitor. T243. Great monitor. Dell also makes a nice 30" monitor, but I believe it requires a special video card to power it.

When you get above 30", all you are doing is making everything large. You aren't gaining more desktop resolution, unless you go into a multiple head video card or something which is designed to specifically multiplex monitors, or something.

Be sure you know what you are buying :)

Ray is correct about resolution, the next generation of large gaumut and resolution screens are being sold now, the latest Dell the U2711 has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, these monitors need a dual link DVI cable, this does not mean two cables but a different cable that carry the extra information for the larger resolution.

Some of the newer screens have a Display Port connection which is able to carry the extra resolution information, a slight watch word here, there is an unresolved conflict with display port Windows 7 and Dell as the screen does not recover from the sleep mode whilst being driven via the display port cable.

The work around is not to let the screen or PC go to sleep.

Very worth while looking at the screens as the detail and colour accuracy is first rate.

I use my laptop far more often, both at home, and on the road, but my desktop PC is hooked up to a 1080p 32" Sony Bravia.

It has a PC input as well as HDMI/component, so I can switch sources between the PC and Blu-ray player, making it a perfect dual purpose monitor/TV.

I do a fair bit of stuff with photos/photoshop/video, and it is a fantastic monitor with great resolution, excellent black levels, etc.

I picked it up for $399 at Best Buy on one of the holiday sales a few months back.

Good luck, and check out TVs with PC inputs...

You can't use TV's as replacements for monitors, they just don't have the resolution for serious gaming or photo-editing.

I just went the Mac route and picked up a 27" iMac - incredible display. At work, I use 3 24" Dell UltraSharp's and am quite impressed with them for the $$.

Righto...Dell 3007WFP(or later 3008 model) 30" monitor has rez of 2560x1600 :) About 1.7 times as much 'real estate' as the 24" 1920x1200 WUXGA Samsung monitors I like.

Requires a DVI-D connector and support in the video card. DVI-D(DVI 'dual') is essentially two pipes in one cable. You need the extra bandwidth to handle the extra load involved with the extra high resolution. Very nice monitors.

And, very correct on the "bigger ain't always better" stuff. Size+resolution is what you want, $$$ permitting.
