huge wreck right in front of me. hit and run

never a pleasant thing to witness. luckily nobody was hurt.

similar story....

a year or so ago i was on my way to the office, heading down a major 8-lane. i was in the thid lane, cruising along. a semi was in the second lane going at a good clip, but acting a bit erratically. i (instinctively, i guess) switched to the passing lane. the semi was probably 100' to 150' ahead of me.

all of a sudden he starts drifting right. the jackass was falling asleep at the wheel. some poor soul was in the far right lane moving just in front of the semi. he never saw it coming. the semi just very slowly and casually kept floating right. he hit the back quarter panel of the car (a taurus, if memory serves). the car slowly and deliberately responded to the laws of physics and flipped left so this taurus was now being pushed forward by the semi. the driver must have finally woken up and jerked his rig, which freed the taurus which proceeded to continue heading left and he did a 360 or 720 into the guardrail in the middle of the highway. all this must have happened at about 60 mph.

i can't imagine what was going through the taurus' driver's head staring up at the grill of a kenworth (or whatever it was). he was totally fine - none of the impacts were that forceful - it was more like a steel ballet - eerie, in fact.

no clue what happened to the truck driver, but i hope he got properly whacked.

Ugh. Those are ugly accidents. Amazing how "magnetic" guard rails become in those instances when a semi- meets a hemi-demi-semi-sized vehicle during metallic mayhem. Hope your Mother (with a Capital "M") wasn't traumatized.

Did anyone manage to beat some sense into the Pork Heads that the cellphone was a Captain Obvious clue?

 

It's just like those police chase videos sometimes.

A few years ago at about midnight I was driving on a 6 lane divided freeway that has 4' high concrete wall barriers on both sides and as a median. I was doing about 80 mph or so.

About 4 car lengths in front of me a lowered red Prelude, with a neon glow kit underneath (you'll understand in a minute) and bling wheels, suddenly changes lanes to the right, and starts to accelerate at the same time. I guess it was the torque steer.....heh......but probably plain old driver stupidity....he slammed the right side barrier in full lane change mode like someone out of Spartacus in a chariot duel.

The car loses no momentum at all and flips up on it's nose......then proceeds to rotate/spin while vertical on it's nose about 5-7 times in a 360 degree circle....alongside the retaining wall as I am driving slightly to the left rear corner of it. All the time the blue neon undercarriage was flashing by as the car spun. It was a wild NASCAR like crash with rap club lighting effects.

It stopped on it's roof and the 4 occupants all crawled out....one puking....and one guy had pissed himself. No one was hurt and the cops arrived minutes later and arrested the driver who was impaired. The cop didn't believe my statement until 3-4 other drivers corraborated it.

 

I saw a very similar thing happen at 635 and the Tollway a few years ago. Two cars pass me in excess of 100 mph. One car was a Lexus coupe. The Lexus clips a third car, bounces back and hits the other car he was racing and then slams into the middle retaining wall head first. I thought they would be dead. The Lexus spins to stop in the middle of 635 and I stop my car on the side and run over to them. Very late at night so no traffic at all. Another cars pulls up right next to the wrecked Lexus and the two gentlement in teh wrecked Lexus start passing cases of beer into the other car and then it takes off. The two guys in the Lexus are covered with beer. Gave my statement to the police, but was never called.
