Kimi Raikkonen blamed a driving error for his disappointing result in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Finn will start the race from sixth position, on the dirty side, at a circuit where overtaking is virtually impossible.

World champion Raikkonen is under no illusions about the difficulty of the task ahead of him tomorrow, but he has vowed not to give up.

"I made a mistake on my final flying lap which cost me precious time, and that followed on from not having got a great lap on my previous attempt, which explains why I'm sixth," said Raikkonen.

"Of course I am not happy and, starting from the third row, my race will be an uphill struggle. I will try and make the most of this situation, given that the car today was not that bad.

"We are going through a bit of a difficult time but we mustn't give up: all we need to do is put together all the pieces of the jigsaw and then the results will come to us again."

Thankfully Kimi has shown he's able to make brilliant passes....and not just on backmarkers ;)

Ferrari needs to hurry up and get it together!

I fear that we will see him (again) driving around his starting position +/- 2 positions, losing LOADS of time and only waking up when the race is half over

Monza isn't that far away, its looking more and more likely that Felipe Massa will be Ferrari's #1 driver. Which will be absolutely hilarious.

World champion Kimi Raikkonen is hopeful he will be able to get his championship bid back on track before it's too late following a series of disappointing results.

The Ferrari driver has not won since the Spanish Grand Prix in April and has dropped to third place in the standings, seven points behind Lewis Hamilton and three behind Felipe Massa.

His chances of improving the situation in Hungary look dim already, the Finn having qualified down in sixth position after a driving error.

Raikkonen admitted the last few races have been hard for him but he is still hopeful he will turn things around.

"I don't know," said Raikkonen when asked about the reason for his problems. "For sure it hasn't been easy for us, but today the car wasn't really bad. I went off and I couldn't stay on the circuit - so that doesn't help. I lost time and that is really it.

"That is life, and we try to do better next time. For sure one day we will get it back, and hopefully it is not too late."

Raikkonen also conceded qualifying has not been easy for him lately, and he is aware that making progress in Hungary will be very difficult.

"Yeah, I know that is the usual problem. Usually the car works better for me in the race, and the main problem is to get the one lap out. Even on used tyres the car feels very nice, so in the race the car should be fine.

"The problem here is to get past, and it isn't easy to overtake – if the guy in front doesn't make any mistakes there is no way to get around him. That is the only issue but we will see what we can do."

The Finn said he was unable to put together a good flying lap all day, and insisted his poor result was down to his error.

"I would say it was my fault really," he said. "I went off on the last lap, and I don't know how much I lost but it certainly didn't help. My first lap also was not very nice.

"The car wasn't too bad today but I couldn't get any real laps – it didn't really come together. For sure there is much more in the car, but it didn't happen today."

From what i see, Kimi's only hope is rain, or SC situation. but both proving the times where the Ferrari pit planners screw up.

he's got 1 or 2 Toyotas in front of him, both drivers one of the most difficult duo to pass on the grid.

However, Kimster hinted pre race that he's looking forward to the break after this race, where drivers would be given 3 weeks break i think. he said he's gonna use that time to re charge his batteries. perhaps a hint of a late comeback again?

having said that, i hope Phil can pull something outta the bag and take a surprise win later.

I believe he is just hitting the sack now and has to get up in a couple of hours. He is the type that will party the night before if he has no chance of winning. Time will tell.
