Very sad. It is a thin line sometimes. It is a very thin line. We are all worse off. I hope that HST is better off now that the devils in his head are quiet.

Agreed, Sad. I remember the first thing i read of his-Hell's Angels- back in the late sixties. Although i was still a kid, there was something profound about his willingness to dive deep in the muck of these social outcast's lives and write intelligently about his experience. While i did not follow his later career, i'm sure the combination of drugs and hard living took its toll. May he RIP.

 

Agree, very sad news. For ages now, we've lost so many talented writers and poets to their own internal demons long before their time should have been up.

Maybe someone should start a "Vincent Black Shadow" thread in the Cars and Motorcycles section...

I don't read many books these days but back in high school I would read Hunter S. Thompson books. He was one of kind. Thanks man, for helping me get through those long school days with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Great Shark Hunt, etc. RIP

 

Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a Highway Traffic Cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side.

This is wrong.

It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow. But he won't know what to make of your blinker signal that says you're about to turn right.

I was in the main 2 towns featured in the story at the very times those epic adventures were happening.

Sonny Barger (Hell's Angel extraordinaire) hates that book.

When we saw this on the news, I said "Perfect!" - it was either that or O.D. - he found peace.

 

Actually, I wish it was assets. I can imagine a cannon shot spewing this guy's underwear, deodorant, gold coins, car keys, stock certificates, clock radio.... all over the country side.

oh dear, just recovering from a laughing fit. unfortunate ad placement and line breaking on a news website made me read a line like the following:

i didn't see the werd "cremated" in there when i first read it! at first i was horrified but then my imagination took over and cracked me up.
