Very cool. One of my clients is paraplegic and is an avid deer hunter. He has this awesome electric wheelchair with off road tires and come hunting season, off he goes...

One of his greatest dreams is to own a hunting/fishing preserve for wheelchair bound individuals.

That's really cool. I know a couple people that are handicapped and still hunt and fish. If it's something you love you don't let anything take it away.

There's a group here, Capable Partners, that teams up disabled and able-bodied people for hunting and fishing outings. I bow hunted with them years ago when I taught big game hunting for the Minnesota DNR. A great bunch of guys.

Tangentially, I'll tell you an interesting, true story.

My brother was a Professor of Wildlife Biology at Auburn Univ.

One duty, he and another professor had was fielding applications for disabled hunting licenses.

As you would think 99% are "bad back" disability fakers and the like.

So, they were sitting in the office and a call comes in.

His buddy answers the phone, listens for a minute, then told the caller to hold a sec.

Said to my brother, “You gotta hear this one”

So, he put it on speaker-phone.

Asked the caller to repeat his request.

The caller said he wanted a bow season license and his disability was that he was totally blind.

    Humm…..

“So, uh, you’re totally blind and you want to shoot deer with an arrow”

Caller: “Yeah, I do it every year, I just thought I’d call to get the free permit for the disabled”

“So how do you shoot deer with a bow?”

Turned out the guy was a very serious bow hunter that some how lost his eyesight (I can’t remember how) so he had a offset scope built so his buddy can sit in the tree stand with him, sight through the scope and whisper in his ear how to adjust his shot!

Said, his buddy would whisper the description on the deer, its behavior etc and if the blind guy wanted to shoot, they would do the scope thing.

    Remarkable.

There was a blind guy in Capable Partners that did the same thing. I spent most of my time with a quadriplegic that had a crossbow rigged up on his wheelchair that he could aim and fire. He was an engineer by trade and had designed a neat counterweight setup to allow someone with very limited mobility and strength to use it effectively.
