Motorsport company HWA, formerly the racing department of AMG which split up when Mercedes bought AMG, want to enter F1 in 2009. HWA is currently racing the DTM Mercedes, they also built the Mercedes CLK-GTR and CLK-DTM AMG in the past.
Germany magazine "Focus" (which isn't part of the yellow press but rather reputable) reports that HWA may replace McLaren as the partner of Mercedes in 2009.

Especially the last part would make sense, imho, after this years trouble... wasn't that good for the Mercedes image...

It's still under the engine freeze so I'm guessing that it shouldn't be very hard to just recreate the already existing engine.

Mercedes own a large share of Mclaren (i think i read somewhere a controling share now), so unless the sell up, which is unlikely, McLaren will still be powered by Mercedes engines !!!

i won't be surprised. i bet this year, the stress Alonso and Hammi gave him combined with the spy saga, he's lost half of his hair on his head. he might be thinking of retiring soon. maybe after Mac stabilizes in 2008, after all the driver issues have been settled.

    From Wikipedia

    Ownership
On 3 January 2000 Daimler AG (then DaimlerChrysler AG) exercised an option to buy 40% of the then TAG McLaren Group. Since 1995 Daimler has supplied British-built Ilmor engines to the McLaren Formula One team under the Mercedes-Benz brand. Ron Dennis and the Techniques d'Avant Garde Group (owned by Mansour Ojjeh) each retained a 30% share.[2] In November 2003 TAG McLaren Group announced it was to change its name to McLaren Group, and its associated companies would also drop the TAG name.

In August 2006 it was reported that Daimler was considering acquiring the 60% held by Dennis and Ojjeh.[3] However in January 2007 it was announced that Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, wholly owned by the kingdom of Bahrain, intended to purchase 15% from both Dennis and Ojjeh. The shareholding is thus Daimler 40%, Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company 30%, Ron Dennis 15% and Mansour Ojjeh 15%.[4]
