    Hi all,

I saw a news report that Hwy 1 is now open through Big Sur and beyond. Is the road now open from Cambria up through to Carmel, or is there still a closure on this road south of Big Sur? Caltrans site still says the road is closed, contrary to the news report I watched.

Coming up from Orange County for Car Week in a month, staying in Carmel, and thinking how nice it would be to drive up Hwy 1.

    Thanks for local information!

Pretty sure it's still closed at Lucia. There was another section below Big Sur that was also closed, I believe the news is about that one.

Coming from OC, Hwy 1 is still closed at Lime Creek, 14.4 miles south of Big Sur, so you would need to detour at Cambria. The KSBW news report was about the repair completion at Rocky Creek, which is approximately 11.5 miles north of Big Sur.

When that section of Hwy-1 finally opens, it will be big (local) news and will be widely reported. No reason to bother CHP

I was referring to contacting CHP. If there's an online info source, that's great!

And how many potentially long distance, out of area/-town/-state/etc road travelers will be checking with (local to you) news media outlets ?
Besides Cal Trans & CHP are taxpayer backed service providers for this type of information. That's (part of ) their job/mission.
