I have a question regarding the hydraulic system in a 360 manual transmission car.

On traditional clutch master/slave system I have always flushed the clutch hydraulics with the clutch pedal depressed and pressurizing the reservoir and open the bleed screw on the clutch slave cylinder side. On the Ferrari I found that method doesn't work, very little fluids came out of the bleeder nipple. Only the old fashion two men pumping pedal method worked.

Just curious if someone would be willing to shine the light on the Ferrari's hydraulic design.

If the pedal is depressed, the port from the resevoir to the cylinder is blocked. Pressurise the resevoir, open the bleed should get flow. often times I will operate the pedal a couple of strokes then repeat. On some cars such as the 360 with the master higher than the final outlet (bleed screw) it helps to be bled form the bleed screw back up to the m/c. then a quick pressure bleed is all that is needed.

    HTH, just my experience....

Sorry still a little confused. You mentioned that if the pedal is pressed the port is closed that's why no fluid came out when I bled it that way. So I should just pressurize the reservoir and don't touch the pedal, fluid should come out from the bleeder nipple?

Also you mentioned "it helps to be bled form the bleed screw back up to the m/c. then a quick pressure bleed is all that is needed."

So I assume there is a bleed nipple at the master cylinder (by pedal cluster area)? I didn't see this mentioned in the shop manual to bleed the clutch hydraulics.

    Robin,
On the 993 I used to bleed the slave cyl w/ just the motiv bleeder, until I lost pedal one time. Carl told me the clutch line was best bled manually in addition to being pressurized by the motiv. After doing it that way, clutch pedal pressure returned. I did it the same way on the 360 and it worked well.

Sorry, my english seems to lose something in translation to internet!

No bleeder on the m/c. Just pressurise the resevoir and open the bleed at the clutch housing. When it is flowing clear, close nipple, operate the pedal a couple of times then open again for a check for any air, close and job done.

Some cars even with the pressure bleeders will still not release all the air, and many times on those we reverse bleed the system, once filled, the normal "push pedal, open bleeder, close bleeder, release pedal" a few times will finish it up.

    Back to my Diablo rebuild.....
