A hydraulic banjo bolt is still leaking from my f1 pump even though it is screwed dead tight. The leak is ver very light. I already snapped one by doing it too tight and have learned my lesson. Any ideas what would stop the leak with all that PSI?

did it have old copper crush washers you re-used?
i'd try some new crush washers first.

Yes, copper crush washers work really well. Have not looked if they use them, but if they don't.. its probably the reason why it leaks in the first place.

I had a similar leak on the F1 pump hydraulic fluid inlet of my Scuderia and the bolt was tight. I removed the bolt and applied high temperature silicon to the thread as well as both sides of the copper washer (btw., it's not a crush washer). Retightened everything, removed the excess silicon and left it to set for a day without reconnecting the oil hose. Following day, I reconnected the oil hose, refilled the hydraulic fluid canister and took the car for a drive and the oil leak had gone.......that was about 5 months ago.

Below is a picture indicating the leak...........

From the picture, that doesn't look like a banjo fitting, it looks like a hose barb.

Dunno about the F1 pump, but the banjo fitting on my corvette brakes uses (2) copper crush washers around it. They look stiff and don't look like they would deform, and even after use they appear as new, but they definitely are crush washers. They were expensive to replace ... a few dollars each (for washers? damn!).

you are correct it is a barb fitting, and yes crush washers are merely pennies with hole in them and we pay dollars for basically a penny made into a doughnut lol

As i know, Max used original old washers. I would first change the washers for new, if problem remain, than i would use Tarek`s solution.

I found no problem with the washer when I unscrewed the hose barb. IMO, the reason for the oil leak is that the copper washer in not perfectly centered on the threaded end of the hose barb. The copper washer slips onto the threaded end, but the thread is not machined till the end, there is 3mm wide groove at the end of the thread and abt. 2mm in depth. The washer ID is larger than the OD at that end and the washer falls into the groove not giving a perfect seal when tightening the hose barb against the F1 pump, therefore the oil leak.

With silicone though, I would be worried that you would apply a little too much and it would squeeze out from the threads. The high pressure could break pieces off and gum up the works.

The hose barb thread into the F1 pump is abt. one inch long. I only applied the silicone to half the length of the thread (ofcourse the outer half, away from the inside of the pump) and when you screw in, the excess silicone tends to move out towards the copper washer and not in. Second, that line has no pressure, it is the inlet from the oil reservoir to the F1 pump. You can see in the picture that the hose is held by a clamp to the barb. The second line you see in the picture is the high pressure line.
