This might be a bit off topic, but does anyone know if a piston engine designed for gasoline can run entirely off of hydrogen? I was thinking today about the changes in automobiles that I and my kids are likely to see in the near future. If we (as a country) go electric or fuel cell or whatever, I'm going to miss the scream of my 355. Unless it'll run on hydrogen with a retrofitted fuel tank (and no cats!) that is...

One of the local electric utilities here in Phoenix have several natural gas cars and trucks. They have converted one or two, IIRC, to run on a mix of nat. gas and hydrogen. I think they have tested to over 50% hydrogen, but not totally sure. Their hydrogen generator is basically a fuel cell "in reverse".... not true electrolysis, but providing water and electricity to the fuel cell, and getting out oxygen and hydrogen. Pure hydrogen vehicles will probably just be fuel cell vehicles, but not for perhaps 15-20yrs IMHO. Yes, I know several mfgrs. have prototypes running now.
