Yeah, if what you're after is a beautifully polished exhaust you don't see under the heat shields, plus it being twice the price of X-Ost.

The gothexhaust really resulted in a cooler engine bay in Vince's 348. I bet you could run without heat shields and not melt the brake lights then show off that polished exhaust. If you guys running other aftermarket exhaust are noticing the same thing maybe someone will try running without the heatshields.

I always figured that they're there so why not use them. Never measured the exhaust heat without them installed.

The old 2 can system definately needed them.

As the guy that stuck his hand on Vince's exhaust 10 minutes after he got to your place, I can attest to that.

YEAH not only polished but if you would take the time to look at the welding (in plain sight) you would understand!!!

Plus better quality and no mounting probs with Tubi... :)
And very little price difference in UK actually. I had Tubi in my 1st 348, and for this one (current 348, keeper) I put it as well, its plain simply perfect. :)

I never found anyone who paid more for a car because it had a Tubi, but it is a deal sweetener. My engine bay is a lot cooler but as much as I would like to show off the gothxmuff, it would be lunacy to remove the shields!

One other option is a custom exhaust with goth cats. I would put up my exhaust sound/note against any of the of the big name systems. The best part is it is much cheaper (<500) and even weighs less then the after market system. here is a link to the what what it sounds like even though the video does not do the sound justice

I first ran my 348 on a nice (80deg) day with my new Goth Exhaust without heat shields, and I was concerned with temp of the lights. I've been running just the rear shield lately, but the sides of the lights (outside the shield) still get pretty warm. That could be the case with stock exhaust in place also... not sure. I'm thinking of making my own rear shield to cover the whole width of the lights. The exhaust itself doesn't seem so hot that I'm very concerned about the clutch. The Goth Muff sits back quite a ways from the clutch, and doesn't seem to run too hot at all.

I could agree with that. Just Make a light shield out of aluminum and that should be all the shield you need. Compared to an original 348 two can exhaust your engine bay must be freezing.

I apologize for my earlier comment as I've never really analyzed a Tubi. So for that I know not what I speak.

That is outstanding mate, are you using the Hi flow cats as well ? Yes now I do have a question .....
When do you get the max benefit by upgrading the exhaust ? I red somewhere that the Hyper Flow cats give you a 5 to 7% increase in power, what about together with your exhaust ?

My Speciale has the factory Borla and test pipes - sounds nice, but not a good as my friend's spider with test pipes and a tubi. Two of my other friends have 355 spiders, one with a tubi and one with a capistro, both with test pipes. The tubi has always been my favorite on either 348 or 355, but the capistro blew the tubi out of the water! - more of an F-1 sound.

I haven't ever heard one or heard of anyone with a capistro on a 348 - anyone here have one or heard one?

    The goth sounds great too.

I want to get something different and louder - tough decision.

    Shemm,
Agree Cappy's are awesome compared to a TUBI, but buying one will set you back more than 4 THOUSAND CLAMS (not including install - unless you do that yourself - so total up about 5K USD) unless you get lucky and find someone selling one on fleabay or here on fchat, which I have yet to do...so, considering price, TUBI is pretty good bang for the buck plus well known and accepted throughout Fcar community.

If you are less concerned about "name" Gothspeed has come up with a system that is freaking silly and sounds every bit as good as any system out there. Quality matching the big boys but less $$$ out of pocket. Give him a ring!

You are right ...... now couple the cost of hi-flow cats to the equation and it gets even higher. The system you have cannot get any more 'free flowing' than it is ........ the muffler is a 'straight through flow design' ............. in other words one can drop a golf ball into the inlet and it will just pop out the tips without any restriction ........ :)

Additionally ..... I have compared flow data I collected from the cats you have to the hyper-flows I removed from my 355 ...... and the results were very surprising ....... the hyper-flows did not flow better .......

Would love to hear what my options are for getting more Idle and Top End "sound" out of my set-up?
Just getting back into F-cars...really need the "experts" opinions.

    Thanks

Is there a situation in aftermarket exhaust systems where better also means less? As in less total amount of sound eminated (DBs go down), but the sound that does eminate has better tonality (richness goes up).
