Hello to all, I am in my wish list phase now and want to liven the engine up without SCs or Turbos. Obviously the cat must go. But, I don't want the exhaust gas smell most (but not all) listers seem to have on the QVs with test pipes. However, I really like the idea of not having that overly hot piece of metal down there to heat up the bay and be a possible fire source if a bunch of unburned fuel ends up in there. Not having found all the answers here goes: 1) Does running Hyperflow cats knock down bay temps like I ASSUME test pipes will? 2) Will running the Hyperflows get rid of the possible fire hazard from a bank going bye bye? (Probably tied into the above) 3) Other than fuel lines letting go, is the cat the next biggest fire hazard in the car? (That is what the Slow Down light is for correct?) 4) Any other ready made performance cat on the market for the 308? (Couldn't find any others but I may have missed them) Thx, Joe
I've just recently gone to test pipes and love it. The smell is slight in my case and just smells like an exhaust should.. not overpowering nor does it bring tears to your eyes. Some may say it's percieved power but i feel the difference and the sound is soooo much better...not too loud but with a nicer slightly louder rumble. Just feels much more natural and yeah the worry of a fire is less and comfort level about the car much higher when test pipes and an inspection of all fuel lines revealed all lines were changed and look good. No experience with the Hyper Flows but for that price the guy who did mine said he could just take generic cats and weld the flanges from my cats for a lot less. Just brings it one step closer to a Euro IMO.
I may just go that route and get the car "tuned" properly if I get a bad gas smell. I am still concerned with the fire hazard even with the Hyper-Flows. Most of the wrecked pictures I've seen lately are due to fires. Any of you smog staters have an option for other ready-made cats?
The fire issue is way over blown. Largely caused by cars with rotted fuel or coolant hoses from people who defer maintenance as long as possible. That or they drive around clueless with a failed ignition on one half of the engine...
