Purely a hypothetical, bench racing fodder for fun. A friend pointed out that this sounds like something from top gear, but I had the idea while driving to work this morning, probably not the first one to have this idea.

    -Nurburgring Nordschliefe

-Any 2013 mass production, true manual transmission, showroom spec.

-Rolling start with 24 oz coffee, 145 degrees F, in a flimsy Styrofoam cup and a production touchscreen-only smart phone velcroed to the dash.

-driver must complete drinking the coffee and send 2 text messages, which mimic a message sent to the driver at random intervals during the lap, must be repeated with 90% accuracy.

It'd basically be a test of how good your car's voice recognition system is. A crappy one and you lose, a good one and you will hardly lose any lap time (and may be a better indicator of real world performance of the cars than any purely track test).

I find I can listen to my in helmet radio communications with no penalty to my lap time, but if I'm thinking about answering/talking, or open my mouth to talk, lap time drops dramatically. Its really bad if you get the response "I couldn't understand that".

How on earth does anyone drive on the 5, the dime and the 405 on a motorcycle and not die?

So... you mean it wasn't just a healthy manly aversion to those stylish leather trousers the 2-wheel crowd's stylists recommend? :D

    All the best,
