Amazing car. For those of you that have some money to burn, please have a look at this. It blows the Atom out of the water (performance wise). Not road legal though, but I'd be really scared to go on public roads with this.

Read about the car. The whole process of creating it from scratch is described. It's a one man project.

    Some specs:

    Wheelbase: 80.5"
    Length: 113"
    Width: 71"
    Height: 39" (top of rollbar)
    Ground Clearance: 2.5"
Drivetrain: proprietary AWD system with chain drive and Quaife limited slip differentials
    Chassis: carbon monocoque, quick-change bodywork
Wheels: 13x8 Tires: 225/45-13 Hoosier R6 or 20x8-13 race slicks
    Engine: Custom 2800cc V8, 375hp @10,000 RPM, 220 lb-ft @6500 RPM
    Gearbox: 5-speed sequential with reverse
    Weight: 850lb
    Power/weight: 970 hp/metric ton (2.25 lb/hp)

    Some quotes from the website:
"The production dp1 will have power/weight of 2.25 lb/hp. To achieve the same ratio, a Bugatti Veyron would need about 1,850 hp (instead of its mere 1,001). A Ferrari Enzo would need 1,350 hp instead of the 660 it comes with."

"The dp1, with its AWD and wide performance tires is optimized to put its power down. To achieve the same power/traction ratio, the Veyron would need to roll on 500 mm wide tires and Enzo, due to being RWD, would need tires nearly 800 mm (over 2.5 feet) wide!"

    Yea, 125k.

Atom can be had for waaaaay less. And it's street legal (sorta, as Seth describes in his thread). So this is a bit much for a track only toy, especially that it's AWD and therefore excludes it from most of competitive racing. But I'm just amazed at the dedication this guy put into creating it, and of course the performance of the machine.

The prototype (with the busa engine)

    Engine: 1300cc, 4 cyl, 175hp, AWD Weight: 900lb 0-60: 2.9 sec Top Speed: 145mph

Now imagine the production car (375hp lightweight V8)... 2.5s 0-60? quite possible. That's like F1 acceleration.
