    My wife is an engineer for DaimlerChrysler. One benefit she has is the ability to lease a car through the company. She just missed the window of opportunity to be able to order a car the way she wants, so we'll have to wait until October to do that. In the meantime, DC announced an internal "special" on Crossfires, which will be a 6-month, unlimited mile lease, which also includes insurance.

    I told her to grab a Crossfire SRT-6 Roadster, but of course, those got snapped up the quickest, so we missed the boat on that one. She then said we could try for a "Limited" Roadster, or an SRT-6 Coupe. Being the gearhead that I am, I told her to go for the SRT-6 Coupe. We got it! We should take possession of it within the next 2 weeks. This will now be my wife's daily driver during the week, and my toy on the weekend.

    Anyone ever drive one? Impressions?

    Ex-gf had the SLK32 AMG, which is basically what the SRT-6 is based on. Faaaaaast. Holy cow fast. Never had a chance to wring it out so I can't make any judgements on handling or driving enjoyment, but smashing the throttle is loads of fun with that supercharged v6. Seems to accelerate about the same as my 355... I've seen 0-60 times of anywhere from 4.6 to 4.9 in mag reviews.

    This is from the DC news website, quick googling search

    * 330-horsepower AMG supercharged engine :D
    * Larger, high-performance brakes
    * Performance-tuned suspension
    * Machined-aluminum wheels
    * Satin silver instrument cluster
    * Leather-trimmed seating with suede inserts

    Couldn't find pricing, how much different is the price of the SLK32 to that of the SRT-6 Xfire?

    MB dosen't make the SLK32 anymore...it is now the SLK55 with a price at about $62K which is about 12 grand more than the Xfire roadster...coup is about 4 grand less than the roadster.

    I knew it was fast, but I didn't know it was less than 5 seconds to 60mph! Heck, bring it on!

    I'm curious how much an employee can get an SRT-6 coupe for on a 6 month, unlimited mile lease with insurance included?

    Sounds like a great deal regardless.

    We want pics! I think the Crossfire is one of the best looking cars to come out in a long time.

    Is the car coming with the custom luggage?

    Everytime I hear talk of a Crossfire, I think of Jeromy Clarkson saying it looks like a squatting dog... But I do hear that the SRT-6's are VERY quick, and fun to drive.

    The crossfire is a very nice car and probably the best value in the unique small coupe and roadster marketplace..

    They have to move these and its been a stone in the marketplace.

    Its a shame because its a nice car.

    I recommended a friend of the family get one of these and he's been very very pleased with his decision.

    Enjoy and let us know how you find the car when you get it.

    It'll rarely be on Orchard Lake since it will actually be my wife's daily driver. It'll be my weekend fun toy, though.

    I will post some pics once we get it.

    These types of leases are done as company cars. You pick them up locally at a center near the Palace of Auburn Hills. The employees drive them for 6 months to a year then turn them back in to the same center where other employees can purchase them at reduced rates.

    The payment is a function of the MSRP of the car and different cars have different rates. For example the normal car may be 1.5% of MSRP but they may have a special rate on the underselling units to get them out of DXC inventory and may cut that rate to .75% of MSRP per month...so using these figures you could lease a $35K 300C for about $525 a month (unlimited miles, insurance, maint. and registration included...you buy gas) or get a $40K Xfire for 300 a month...the rates may not be acurate but that is how the employee company car program works with DCX.

    We finally got the car yesterday. I was starting to give up hope.

    Initial impressions;
    It hauls ass, no doubt about it. Stomp on the gas and the tires would spin into oblivion if the traction control was off.

    The car does have an SRT-6 badge on the back. Until we got this car, I glanced at every Crossfire that drove by looking for SRT-6 identification, but never saw anything. So I have come to the conclusion that there just aren't very many SRT-6s on the road.

    The car is so small, especially on the inside. I am 6'-2", and could not find a seat position where my knees weren't grazing the dashboard. Also, the side window height is almost comical............really makes you feel like you are sitting in a hot rod. Dash materials, actually all materials seem a little cheap for a car costing around $50k. I turn on the radio, which is equipped with NAV, only to find the exact same dreaded NAV system that Ferraris come with...........that is, no big screen.....everything displayed on the tiny radio screen.

    For the price of this car, there is no way in hell I would ever buy one..........I'd buy a Vette in a heartbeat for the same money. For our 6 month lease though, it will be highly entertaining.

    I will post some pictures once I get a chance to take some.

    I actually got to drive one at a Skip Barber event last month.

    It does haul ass pretty well. They had that ESP or EST or something like that. It is basically traction control of some kind. Pissed me off. I was doing an autocross and was trying to oversteer around the cones. I was ROCKING it in the Viper which didn't have it (or didn't have it on).

    Had the tail end totally out on the Viper but wasn't able to do it with the Crossfire because the bank would shut down or the timing would retard (traction control) or SOMETHING and I would lose power. Wasn't as fun then because it was throwing me off with what my mind was telling me about driving dynamics.

    I was told they could shut that function off though which would have made that one fun car.

    Overall, I liked it. Great car.

    There is a switch on the center console to turn off the traction control.

    Congrats on the car Dan. Should be a fun drive until the snowflakes fly....and guess what when they do the car belongs to Daimler Chrysler.

    Should see if your wife can get her hands on a 300 SRT or a Charger SRT 420+ hp sounds like fun to me :)

    Looks good!!! I am guessing the rear tires will be bald when you turn the car in a few months. I like the use of alcantera(or suede) on the seats as well.
