Those aren't the specs for the EOS-1D X are they? What I read on Canon's web site was a bit different.

The EOS-1D X looks like a great camera but it's nearly triple what my 5D Mk II cost and I'm not sure it would be worth the extra $ for my amateur picture taking.

You forgot the most important spec:

    Price: $6,800

Here is the thing I have a problem with. It's full frame with 12fps, which is awesome. But why not just buy a 5D2 and a 7D? That's what 1/2 the price of the 1DX and you have the ability of having a 2nd camera should either of them fail.

Lots of whisper talk about the 5D MK III coming out first of the year.

I just hope they trickle the AF tech into a consumer grade camera. I've been holding onto my 40D for a long time. Waiting for the 5D2 quality sensor (though I'd prefer the D3S model of lower res/larger pixels) with 7D AF and processor, and a cheaper derivative of the 1Dx would be just the thing.

If we didn't recently have a son, I'd seriously consider the 1Dx. I had been waiting for Nikon's rumored D4 to see what happens to D3S prices, but then I'd need to migrate to their glass AND keep my canon glass for my film body.

    I don't care about the fps. ;)

I want it for the ISO ( really HATE using flash as it does more harm than good) and new AF system which stay steady even if you tilt the camera.

Automatically set, ISO 100-51200 (in 1/3-stop or 1-stop increments)
Basic Zone modes: ISO 100-51200 set automatically
    Extension settable: ISO 50; 102,400 and 204,800

I don't have much faith in ISO performance. I currently shoot with a D7000 which is rated with having excellent ISO performance and yet I hate taking it above 800.

Curious, as 1600 is fine here, and mine is rated to 3200 (extended) For B+W photos, I use 3200 exclusively... and wish I had more noise :(

I posted about that before in another thread. Was comparing a 7D to a D7000 and the D700 outperformed the 7D at ISO 3200.

The pic I took for the last contest here was taken at ISO 1600.

I live where it is always really dark, so I would like much more clearer ISO. A minimum of noise would be perfect. I think the above camera could deliver that. Of course before I ever get the money for it it will be well used and I will have time to evaluate various users opinions on it.

It's very usable at 1600 and can be past that, I guess my line is when you can tell a difference between ISO X and ISO 100. I'll do some quick shots with the D7000 this afternoon and show how it performs.

It depends on the scene. If there is a wide dynamic range, the noise will be more evident than if the lighting is fairly even.

The 7D and D7000 do some good in camera processing for noise reduction, but IQ still suffers from the pixel density.

I keep waiting for that whispered about 24-70 f2.8 L IS...... For me it would be difficult to justify replacing my 5D Mk II as it works great and I haven't broken it yet.

Lots of people agree with you, I wonder how many will upgrade, I LOVE my 5D mkII, I'll NEVER get 100% out of it for probably 10 more years then I'll change to a hologram camera :), (I have bought some sweet glass), I know its subjective but there is something about the picture that I really like and don't want to change. I was just putting it out there for anyone thinking about buying a new cannon camera.

Whisper talk I have heard is improved codec (higher bit rate?) for video and a few other video improvements, more so on the video side than the still side.

It'll be tough to improve that image IMO, I'd say higher ISO but I can shoot the stars at night that look brighter than I can see with my eye.

Even at low sensitivity, dynamic range is an area with room for improvement. Even though it's substantially cheaper, Nikon's D7000 has a full stop of additional DR as compared with the 5D2.

At high sensitivity would benefit from better in camera processing.

IQ aside, there's that darn antiquated autofocus to contend with.
