From time to time, I see ads that state , "I am selling this Ferrari this for a friend". WTF is that all about? It just sounds like a scam altogether. Why can't the owner type or own a computer with Internet connection? Maybe if Bill Gates is selling his GTO, but that's not usually the case.

    Anyone else see these?

I sell cars as a hobby and in the past seven years have sold a number of cars for friends. One particular car I remember was a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible that I sold on Ebay for an 80 year old friend of the family. He was unable to use a computer so I sold it for him to a man in Australia. The seller was happy, the buyer was happy, and I made a few hundred dollars. I think you are right that there are scams out there and people probably say they are selling it for a friend to imply a certain familiarity with the history of the car. I wouldn't pay extra on the net for a car being "sold for a friend" but I also wouldn't avoid the car either. As usual on the net buyer beware and inspect before you buy. Good luck in your search for a Ferrari. I just bought my 1st a few weeks back...

Yes, this is especially prevelant on eBay, where a seller's rating has a large impact. If you were to sell a car and it was your first auction, you would have no rating and people would be hesitant to buy from you. But if you have a friend who is a regular seller and has a high rating, you have a much better chance of selling the car, and at a higher price.

Many times sellers do not want the hassle of answering questions and doing test drives. For some, they just want the money for the car and be done.

What's wrong with selling cars for a friend? I've been asked by many people to sell their cars for them many times.

Sorry for the stupid question but I'm curious. Are you telling that as an example of what you want to point out or is it true that Bill Gates has a GTO.

Don't get me started on E-Bay.......people often place opening bids on things at half of what they want......I phoned a couple of guys today because I was looking for a vehicle for a client of mine and found this out.......what a load of BS.

I think the listing it for a friend thing could be valid though. Ask the questions.........

I bought my 308 on ebay.

I bought it on a friady at midnight. By monday I had 20 e-mails from Ferrari owners telling me how I got cheated because the guy couldn't even tell them if it was a Euro or not. Turns out the guy knows nothing about cars let alone nothing about Ferrari. A guy gave this car to his girlfreind to sell at her ebay drop-off store. She didn't want to handle it so she asked her boyfreind to list it on ebay.

I am very pleased with the car and I've had it almost two years now.

Most of these "friends" deals are probably broker situations and the owner doesn't want to hassle with it.
