on my 85qv the mirrors are rectangular both on each door at the base in the front there is a insert that comes off at that point a hex screw can be tighten so the mirror won't move when you close the door,as for the other car have you decided to look else where for another car,run away from this one, unless you need this one for parts

Welcome to FChat. You've received expert advice here. Don't buy this car, unless its nearly free and you plan to sell the parts.

The engine bay alone is a scary mess.

Looks like the original poster didn't like our advice---no response. He did say he was going to buy. Maybe the deal is already done.

haha... no i am reading all of your comments and really appeciate all of them.
i am going to go tomorrow to see the car again and see i i can get a deal i would agree on (less than 5 grand).
if i get that kind of offer then i might pull the trigger, yet keeping all your input in mind and perhaps do a last minute opting ...
anyway... it's gonna be tomorrow and in the next few days

I would sit down and caculate all of the obvious costs [major service, leather replacement, rust issues, etc] and see what it adds up to. I would stay away from this car if it bumps 20K total leaving 5-10K for unforseen. This car looks like a nightmare if you don't have deep pockets or mechanical skills and lots of time.

At 5K, I'm sure it could be parted out for a profit but I would wager it would cost at least 30K just to get to decent driver status.

You can spend time or you can spend money. Give then a really cheap "since it's obviously broken" price, and then take your time to tear it apart and work on it. You'll end up knowing more about the car than 95% of other owners.

Not every Ferrari can be a Platinum concourse winner, but there's a lot of fun in a driver.

Absolutely! My late father said it best when he told me, "You're not a car collector. You're a car enthusiast. Go drive your car..." This car will obviously need a bunch of work, but if you're willing to invest the time, money and get it uber-cheap, it could be an adventure. Otherwise, just get yourself a well sorted car with higher miles for mid $20K and start enjoying right away. Personally, I would encourage you to go with the latter as Ferrari parts could really hurt the pocket book and, unless you're really devoted to the pursuit of putting this car together, it's easy to lose momentum on such a large project.

I have never seen so much rust in an engine compartment. How do we know that this car wasn't underwater for real, with all the floods/hurricanes in 2004 and 2005?

the car was certainly not under water. she has been sitting on a 40 acre ranch for years. in the rain, however!
that's where all the oxydation on the engine comes from. but that can all be cleaned in my opinion.

I bought a car in Corpus Christi, TX once that had a thin layer of rust on some compartment parts but nothing like this car. You may be able to remove the top layer of rust, but the corosion remains. I've never seen so rusty an engine compartment either and that would make me very fearful of what I can't see.
