Hello 348 bros: I am selling my car, and really need a bottom line price. I bought it from Tonkin in 1991. It is in perfect condition throughout, as described in the ad. Also, what would happen if I brought it to FOW to trade in or sell? Thanks!!! 1991 348TB RED/RED with TUBI 18650 miles.... http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29296-2357-0?uid=6685413&site=0&ver=LCA080805&item=4637321719&lk=URL
Car looks good, but it is in need of a major service. The car will need some work and it appears that the front spoiler/bumper has a crack in it. If someone were to offer you 46k I think that I would take it. When I sold my 328 I took an offer just before winter instead of taking the chance of it not selling for another 6 months. I took less for the car, but I made it up with the interest that I earned with my investor. Good luck.
Generally agree excpet that I think the price listed here is a little low. I would not accept $46k if it were mine. It is a 91 with very low miles (good) needs major service soon, red interior, GTB, and road rash on the spoiler (bad) but I would think I would not accept any less than $49k. Just my $.02. BT
$10,000 Tubi exhaust? Perhaps just mention the Tubi - no one who knows will believe the $10,000 number and it calls the balance of your description in to question credibility-wise. $50K is too high IMHO as it needs $5K major service and the nose respray so that puts a buyer into it in the mid to high $50K's which is knocking on the doors of late spider money.
I agree that deleting the $10k form the exhaust description would be a good idea. People in the know would tend to discount the rest of your description based on that. BT
He PM'd me and I returned it but I have not heard from him. Major would be a sticking point with me but GTB's aren't bad and road rash is like a really cool scar from doing something stupid.
"Silicone treated electrical wiring"??? Does that mean someone sprayed WD40 on the wires chasing an electrical problem? Also curious about the dates. On FChat, it says it was purchased in 1991. In the ebay ad, it says it was purchased last August. I assume that the 1991 figure was a "brain fart". I agree with the others that the "$10,000 Tubi" deal is a headscratcher.
Thanks for the replies. I feel like a minnow in a pool of sharks here...This is the first time I have ever sold a car on my own...bear with me..!
Yes, the car was bought by ME in July 2006. The Ferrari Mechanic trated all wiring with silicone at the connectors to prevent rust. He works on many high end cars and says that this is best for witring issues.
I have seen a couple of TB's around here with fresh service and no issues at around 50K, so I think a car with needs is going to be low to mid 40's. The tubi is going to add little, if any, value to the car though it is nice to have. I would address all cosmetic issues yourself before selling. Dealers spend money on touch-ups and detailing for a good reason. Dave
Like Miltonian said alittle WD-40 sprayed on the wire connectors...this is not a selling feature that you should list it is a 50 cent fix. Most the people on this site know Ferraris and between the silicone coated wires and the 10k Tubi I would be very suspicious of this car if I were a buyer.
I wouldn't consider us sharks when you asked for our opinion. Most of us on this site will be honest and give you an honest opinion. I just sold my car and know what the market is like so I quess the price depends on how fast you want to sell.
Prices also vary regionally to some degree - by listing on eBay you are competing against the lowest priced markets. In Southern California there are enough examples around that the price can be negotiated. I recently picked up a 92 ts with 16K miles that needs a major for $45K - that was from a car dealer, not private party. The car is in excellent condition throughout with the exception of the length of time since the last service. I would expect to pay less from a private party since they don't have the overhead of a dealer. In your favor is the fact that driving season is quickly approaching, which always gives a slight bump to sales prices. From your ad it appears that it has failed to sell two previous times from deadbeat bidders, but it may also be an indication they found better value elsewhere after further research. I would think somewhere in the 43K - 46K range would interest a serious buyer. As stated previously, Tubi and "silicone treatment" don't really add anything to the perceived value.
I woould seriously consider repairing the spoiler/bumper area. The crack is obvious and is very off putting. People who are still interested after seeing it will consider it a big $$$$ discount item, yet it should not cost all that much to patch and paint. Dave
I looked at this car in my search for a 348. I agree with what most posted here, the wiring mention, the crack and a few other details put me off a little, made me wonder about the car. I also didn't know if I could live with the red seats and dash. I'd pay the asking price if it had a recently done service and the nose was repainted.
I just offered the Doctor 46ish through ebay, he wouldn't take it. Oh well, there is another one around the corner. I think that crack needs to be investigated, that could be Superficial, or through the bumper. If it is through the bumper that is going to be a bit more work. Also either way, to do it right without overspray, bumper gets dropped and completely resprayed. Easily a $1,500 to $2,000 job. Maybe I am wrong, but good paint and bodywork costs. I have a guy that could spray it for $300, but I don't think his services would be the right thing for a Ferrari. The wiring thing is stabilant on the connectors right??? That is upkeep to me, hope he doesn't want more for keeping air in the tires.
To the previous poster. The car is in fantastic condition. The crack IS superficial. The car has been maintained beautifully. The car is now lowered to 46K. If u like it buy it. It's a deal. PS - the air in the tires is imported from Italy...
Sounds like time to put up or shut up. Good luck on selling. Be warned that once its gone you WILL buy again. I know a 348 ebay sale ended last night-did it sell?
Update. The car did not sell. I am surprised, but unless I get 46K, it will be in my garage to be looked at every morning when I go to work and driven on weekends. Hell, another 5ooo miles on it through the summer will be fun! Thanks to all who helped, and if anyone is looking for a good clean 348 TB, email me.
That's amazing it did not sell at that price. I sold my 308 through cars.com. It took 3 or 4 months, but I held out for the price I wanted. Only initial cost was I think $50 for the add. You can renew for free until it sells.
I'd get that front spoiler and bumper taken care of. It's very obvious, and it looks like a much bigger deal than it is, but most buyers like a car that doesn't need anything done (beyond usual maintenance). Probably the best money you could spend on the car to heighten its marketability.
