rad911 started an excellent post below concerning 355 vs. 996TT .. His concerns and feelings are almost mirrored in my own. I'm really interested to hear from 355 owners who covered, to the best of their ability, all the bases before buying. Let's say - and your situation might have varied slightly, but you get the jist - that:

    -You bought a 97-99 355.
-Bought it from a Ferrari dealership.
    -Car maintained at that dealership.
-Car was recently through major (less than six months)
-Compression numbers were all above 200 and consistent. Valve guides haven't required replacement ..
-Thing is pretty close to pristine (at least visually and high-level functionality wise) ..

You know .. a choice car. How did it turn out?

Turned out fine for me. Here's the basics:
    - Bought an '98 355 Spider in 2005 from Sport Auto in NC
    - Drove for about 6-8 mths and a buddy just had to have it
    - He owned it for approx another year or so (traded on a 996TT)
    - Only thing the car ever really needed were O2 sensors.

Wonderful car. Top is pretty annoying but other than that, it's all good. Think this is a really good time to buy one too - market looks good for buying.

Note: The 996TTs are way down right now as well.

Tim, what about the difference in speed between the 355 and the 996TT? When he traded did he regret it and wanted to come back to the 355?

Wanted to come back so much, he bought a 360. (I don't think it was about the speed!)
