After a fair amount of paperwork, finding a trucking company, getting my loan docs notarized and wireing funds, My 2003 Yellow 360 will be leaving her home in La Jolla on moday morning. She will hopefully be arriving before next weekend. Now about the wife. I really appreciate all your suggestions, and this is the approach I am going with. It is going to be dropped off at my house with certainty while I'm at work so therefor will just have to deal with the wrath when I get home. Perhaps a mother's day gift is the wrong approach so I got her a little something and hid it in the house so when she calls me to tell me someone just dropped off a Ferrari in our driveway I can refocus her attention to a treasure hunt with a fair amount of BLING, perhaps it will blind her so that she can no longer see the Giallo beaste in the driveway. Update to follow....

Cool. Although you really want to be there to witness the drop off of the car. Who's going to sign for it? You want to inspect it too. Good luck with the "wife tax." ;) Plus you should tip the guy $50 or so.

    howdy,

i am in same situation. bot my F360 2 weks back, and havent told the missus. i stay in a condo project with a basement carpark, so i have been parking the car far away from the usual spot. good thing i didnt sell away my Maser Spyder, if not she will be definately on my back.

IMHO, the mother day idea will not work. i am thinking of just confessing. maybe just say got a really special deal etc etc with basically negligible depreciation, thus booked the deal....something along those lines.

I bought mine last November after my wife told me she couldn't figure out what to get me for Christmas so to just go pick out my own gift.
She was surprised but loves the car. She also said she isn't going to let me pick out my own Christmas gifts anymore.

Sounds like you've got a smart one there. Woman that feel threatened or use a man's car hobby as a way to make the guy feel guilty or flat out hate the cars don't get it. A guy who freely enjoys his hobbies is going to be a more fulfilled and better partner then someone who is being controlled and constricted. :)

I hate to see cars leave La Jolla!

However, since you did not fill out your profile we don't know where you live, and, therefore, the legal advice can't be fully exploited.

However, three good suggestions were made:

    1) you need to inspect the car upon it's arrival
    2) you need to tip the driver
    3) you definitely need to bring your sleeping bag to your office!

As long as you finances are in order, as far as your home and family are concerned, and it won't cause hardship, why would you have to worry about your wife? She has to understand and support your hobbie/passion just as you would hers.So man up and drive!

A piece of (unsolicited) advice --- life is based on "agreement", in advance not after the fact. Making unilateral decisions in a partnership or relationship is a formula for, at a minimum, unnecessary hardships for both parties. What if we were business partners and finances were great, and I spent a half a million because I thought I deserved it and we no longer were liquid enough for you to do anything as near as grand. I suspect you would have some "feelings" about that? Best

A few years ago (before my 360, I was shopping for a 911 cab, and had left a number of hints to my wife about the seriousness of the need. Over Labor Day weekend, I was went with a friend m to pick up his new silver Mustang/Cobra vert. Real nice car for $35k. As the sale progressed, I ended up buying a Black version of the Mustang/Cobraright on the spot, and proudly drove it home, to surprise the wife. ....

Me think..."Look honey, I just saved us 60 Grand!... Its Black Beauty!"
as I parked it in the garage.
She think it's "Rosemarys Baby" Get it out and take it back first thing in the morning.... I did. One of the biggest mistakes in our 12 year marraige. It was not about the choice of cars, but rather that I didn't consult with her. I pouted around the house for a few weeks looking like a wounded puppy, and ended up getting the 360 instead. Clearly a much better result... and I ALWAYS consult before I buy these days.

I still get a grin when I see a black Cobra vert!

    Still waiting on the outcome?

    RBK,
    +1 well said.

Btw- on the surprise gift for your wife- if you think she needs a surprise to satisfy some kind of "wife tax" my experience is this will backfire on you and she will be pissed that you spent even more money on the gift she did not ask for. Women, I do not understand them! But I do communicate to my wife before big decisions.

    best regards,
    Jerry

I told my wife that I was buying the 430 spider while on the way to the dealership with a friend. She said, as long as you like it. Then added about 30 seconds later "and you let me get the Bentley that I want". Its been 6 months and so far I have been able to manage to keep her away from the Bentley dealership, but as the weather gets nicer in the NW she has started pushing again. I think I am going to need to give in soon to keep the peace.
