its a driver, but thats what i wanted. its on its way to bob houghton in london now for a service and registration. i will pick it up sometime in june.

am excited, but nervous too - helluva car, but more scary than any of the other cars i have driven.

not too fussed about the timing. i am busy and have a few rides. i just want the work to be done right, and then we'll take it easy getting used to it. i am pretty excited tho! think i might take it to a track first time out just so there is some run-off in case it gets away from me.

You're developing quite the stable. Was this in addition to the current rides or did it replace one of the others?

Looks a VERY fine example, to my eye...I'll give you this advice, from my friend:

"Ya just make DAMN sure you have both hands firmly on the steering wheel, and it's pointed straight ahead, when the turbos kick in...otherwise this thing will swap ends on you, in a heartbeat!!"
    JRV

And he said he never made much $$$ working on them as you had to unbolt so much %*&^ to get to the problem!!! LOL!

But then Big George Foreman would pull into the shop.....

Well done Ross, you ll love it! Switzerland is not a great place for it (I live in Zurich myself) due to speed traps etc., but it is a gorgeous car.
I bought my Carrera GT from Simon Kidston, sight unseen and I must say it was a good experience. He was a gentleman and I would use him again

    Ross,

Congratulations on the F40, wonderful car you've acquired! The track is a smart idea to get a feel for the chassis, just be extra-careful in the wet ;)

Kidston always has lots of fine machinery on offer. Nice find there but it's even more uncompromising than the CS...

A great car. A drivers car.

I remember a few years ago we were going at a pretty good speed and the F40 locked up all four wheels and did a 360. Flat spotted all four tires but did not hit anything thank goodness. Driver said a semi pulled out in front of him.
    Be careful. No ABS.

yes i imagine it will be a pretty hair raising experience. the idea is to get used to it, then do a few fun events with it over a couple years, and then spend the bucks to get it back to close to concours level, and then only use it sparingly.

simon is absolutely a top flight person and gentleman. i have known him for some years, but got to know him better just recently, and we have many friends in common. he is very trustworthy - i bought this sight unseen with his guarantee.

i have always liked the F40 - i guess its the cars that come out when you are young enthusiastic and broke that attract you the most when you can afford to buy them. the good thing in this case is that this car is actually cheaper than it was when it came out !! amazing. and i dont think that will remain the case.

funnily enough, i have no hankering for any other ferraris of the modern age at this point. hence my amended wish list. the only cars i still think are worthwhile getting (and within some means of affordability) are the 275gtb, the dino, the daytona.

the reason i am also looking at the pagani is because i love the engineering and build quality - which frankly is superior to the enzo (sorry to owners of that great car, just an opinion).

anyway, am glad to have booked this. i think it was the last reasonably priced F40 since it has a few needs to get it to classiche cert.
by the way i need a few parts which i plan to collect over the next few years, so anybody who has a line on F40 parts, please send me an email.

If I drive the F40 and my wheels lock up, does that mean I get a free CS to go? :D

yes the 456 is still the daily, BUT frankly i have been offered another cs at a very cheap price because it is in grey with plain leather seats, so its very subtle. so have been toying with the idea of selling the 456 in exchange for this grigio/stealth cs. more upside and more fun, but fewer seats....
