...so I bought an M3 to have as "backup". After coming back from Lupe's party on Sunday night, I bottomed out driving back to Hubert's place. When I did, the car popped out of gear and the fuel cut off. I let off the throttle, put the car back in gear and drove sheepishly down his alley. Mind you, this was after a 175+ run racing Rob from exit 12 to exit 14 so something was bound to break. Got back in the car after leaving Hubert's the car drove fine all the way back to my garage -- about 10 blocks. Got in the car this morning to go get it inspected and started it up. Warmed up for a good 5 minutes while the garage folks cleared out the "riff raff" of BMWs and Mercedes. The car idled around 500 and not the usual 1,000. Whatever. Drove up Park Place to Broadway. Whenever the car got to 2,000 RPM it would cut the fuel. If you floored the accelerator it would stutter at 2,000 but pass it just fine until you got to 4,000 and then the same thing would occur. Not good. Figuring I'd push my luck, I drove on and suffered through traffic. Hey, if the car was gonna die and I needed a flat bed, I'd save a nickel if I was stuck in Brooklyn vs. Manhattan. Check engine light comes on while crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. I get through traffic on the BQE to the LIE where it opens up -- I figure if it's gonna go, go with a smile so I step on it. Big. I drove from the BQE/LIE interchange to RPM in 28 minutes. Called RPM enroute and Richie diagnosed the problem as a bad cat sensor -- probably got knocked around when I bottomed out. The cars (with 5.2 Motronics) have electronic safe guards on the cats that cut out to prevent overheating and the like, but they are not "rev limiting" just friendly cut outs apparently. So, the car is at RPM getting that resolved. Ran in to 348 Dave who was there with an oil change, by the way. Long story short: I bought an M3 to drive while the Ferrari gets fixed: - Alpine White with Cinnamon coupe - SMG - Navigation - Bi-Xenon - Park Distance - Premium & Cold Weather Packages - iPod & Sirius - Aluminum Trim - Harmon-Kardon Audio - Bunch of other crap... Got a great price from the good people of Habberstad. Hopefully, I can pick it up tomorrow... Hopefully. That's all. Sleep now go I.
Sooooo nice, Love the M3...but wait; weren't you the one that said they were not a good buy? Glad you came to your senses.
I did say that. I was referring to the convertible and the fact that Keri will wind up driving it 90% of the time. Also, I got a pretty good deal on this car, so it all works out!
****! Awful news Emil - especially after getting it back so recently - but glad you managed to get it to RPM safely. What's the ETA on getting the problem fixed?
its a niiiiiicccee. maybe u can pick up ur car tomorrow when hubert picks up his car. we can get a drive going.
I don't know whether to say congrats on your new purchase or sorry for Fishbulb's minor ailment... So I'll say both!! Peace out E-money!!!!
Congragulations on your new car. The M3 is one of my all time favorite cars and i love the color combination you got.
In, but I think the damp weather of late may rain on the return of Hubi Tubi. Ghost: Fishbulb should be back in a week or two. Rehan: It's no X5, but it'll do. Hutch: Thanks! Sam & JP: xoxo
how many people can we fit in the m3? by the way that would make a good car to umm feature in the show...dont have to worry about banging it up
The M3 is such an understated rocket - I too am jealous. Will Teutonic perfection attract you away from the Prancing Horse? Best wishes for safe and fun-filled ownership experiences.
Nice selection Emil. The M3 is one of my favorite "coupe" out there and you can mod it a bit to make it a real killer/showstopper. The SMG is a cool setup...I'm looking forward to hearing your "reviews" on it. Bring that bad boy on the Fun Run, I'll looking forward to seeing first hand. Congrats!
I got a used Z3 for my wife at that dealer, really enjoyed working w/ them. Is your car new or preowned? I too love M3s or if I'm really fortunate would like a M5 some day + the other 20+ cars that are on that list of must own or drive for a time. Might be time to start playing LOTTO.

True dat! But we'll tolerate an error in judgement from Emil once in a while. The priviliges of being a Founding Member of the EC Crew.
Hey, it's mine in name, Keri's in reality and she's not too good with the 6-speed. Concessions were made. Treaties were signed. Accords were struck. Now that she has what she wants, there is nothing to stand in my way when I buy what I really want for a daily -- whatever that may be...
