After being at Lime Rock this weekend and driving home in the torrential rains, I noticed my carpets were damp/wet and was in the process of taking the drivers seat out to lift them up and dry them. In that process I was sliding the seat forward and upwards. The headrest hit the windshield and put a huge crack in it. I am so sick I could almost vomit. Can anyone help me find a reputable glass place that WILL do a competent job at replacing with a factory piece of glass. The car is a 96 355 coupe. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Bummer, dude. Luckily, in Mass, your glass is fully coveraged by your insurance, with no deductible. It's REALLY expensive not just because of the glass, but also because you'll need a $700 trim kit to install it - and you need to make sure they have experience doing it, because even the best installers have difficulty with the 355 windshield (F40/Continental down in Portland CT, has done a bunch, but they had to install TWO windshields on two different cars because it didn't go in well the first times). If you need to get the glass and trim kit yourself, call Mark Mina at Ferrari of New England (now down in Foxboro).

Dennis is right. It's possible to salvage the trim, but odds are, you'll need a new one. If you're already feeling bad about cracking the windscreen, don't compound your guilt by making a mistake with the new one. Since insurance is already picking up the tab, do it once, do it right... take it to somebody that has Ferrari experience.

    Daniel,
I tried emailing you about a windshield. You have one posted for $1850. Is that in stock? Thanks

    Dennis,
I saw you sitting with the Piloti crew on Fri afternoon. You guys looked like you were pretty hot from your track sessions. I hope to get some suggestions/ recommendations of places closer to the Cape/ Boston for installation. I will call Mark and see what he has to say. Thanks

    Hey David,

It was good to see you there - sorry I didn't have longer to chat.

Commiserations on the windscreen - at least the MA insurance will pick it up.

    Dan,
No problem, I know how it is when your in the throws of trying to come down after a track session!! It was good to see you as well. You guys have motivated me to join FOA and start to come to track days. It is either a step up or down from my vintage racing, not sure which, but it looks like a blast and to legally drive these cars as they were intended. We'll see you at the next one.
And if you hear of any ideas on where to get a 355 windshield replaced, please let me know. Tried calling Boch/FONE today and left messages for them with no reply's. We'll figure it out.
    Thanks
    David

Try FoNE again - they literally moved over the weekend and are unpacking from the boxes.

Amusingly there is now a "Hi this is Ernie Boch, you've reached FoNE, press 1 for Sales..." message as the default.

They've moved down to Foxborough, so that probably suits you since your in the cape. Not so cool for us north shore boys.

Wanted to thank everyone for their help in my windshield problem. I decided to take it to FONE/Boch and as usual Mark Mina took the bull by the horns, battled the insurance company, "what do you mean it is more than $350 for a windshield!?". So I pick it up tomorrow and get to enjoy it for the weekend. But, anyone that owns a 355, don't break the windshield and make sure you have insurance, $3300 for replacement. Wow. You wanna play with the bigga boys, you agonna pay.

Frame included, too? At the 3K level, it would almost have to be included.

    Jack,
I assume it was the frame as well. I emailed you inquiring about buying it from you, but no response. Is there some way to get in touch with you that is reliable?

I was out of town on vacation until Monday. My email was supposedly clogged on the server with so much junk. You'd be suprised what people send to me :(

Anyway, you're in good shape. We shipped one to another customer a few weeks ago, and when I attempted to replenish stock, I was told there were none at FNA (at the time). That situation might have cleared up, but I haven't checked yet. BTW, the only ones I stock are the embedded antenna ones.

In terms of reaching me, always try our phone 336-499-2500. If you get the voicemail, please leave a message. I do return calls -- even if there's no good news.

Enjoy your clear vision -- and don't follow any 550's too closely. They are rock/pebble launchers unlike any other Ferrari I know.
