I'm still working on this; but I don't want to post partial details and possible half-truths until I've obtained all of the facts. What I can say is that 13987 is on the factory's list of Daytonas as a Daytona; furthermore, 13987 doesn't make any appearance on the factory's list of 365 GT 2+2s. S/N 13987 started life as a Verde Pino/beige Daytona, was black/tan when it was in California in February, 2003, and was yellow/tan when Boardwalk Ferrari had it for sale in May, 2009. Collector, thank you for posting a picture of this car's chassis stamping. Can you post other pictures of the car? What color is it? Can you post a picture of the engine's numero interno (internal number)? Knowing the engine's internal number would really help resolve this issue.
Collecter, it appears that the photos which the seller (Rommi Garage in Indonesia) provided to you have been digitally altered. The images are from of a set of photos taken of 365 GT 2+2 s/n 13989, when it was offered for sale by DriverSource here: 1970 Ferrari 365 GT for sale: Anamera https://www.flickr.com/photos/driversource/sets/72157624921662171/detail/ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Also, if you compare the other photos of the car that Rommi Garage was using online, you will see that they are also photos of 13989 from the same listing. Interestingly, Rommi Garage has removed the ad from their site within the past 24 hours, but it can still be seen here in this independent site for the time being: Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 | collectorscarworld.com - the finest sports- and racingcars Image Unavailable, Please Login It appears that you may have been sold a car that does not exist.
this is the correct answer you did a great wonderful work to show the truth it's maybe a stolen car or maybe no car exist
Collector, We saw a picture of a car only similar to your car. Can you show a picture of your actual car? Thank you, Matt
Let me clarify, because 1) English is obviously not collecter's first language, and 2) there was some outside communication and some of the information shared was never posted in this thread. According to collector, he thought he had just purchased the car sight-unseen from Rommi Garage in Indonesia. He saw the same photos that we have seen, and the car was supposedly en route to him. We did not discuss money, but I would assume that some payment was made. He posted here looking for the original color, but once the s/n was made public, all hell broke lose (the chassis number belonged to a well-known Daytona). After a short investigation, I found that the photos used by Rommi Garage were actually those of 365 GT 2+2 s/n 13989 and that the ones showing numbers had been altered. So the car that collecter thought was on its way to him is not. Now he has to deal with that. The end.
Awesome .... F chat saves (hopefully) the day. Good job to those who helped identify the facts and the car(s) involved. Word(s) for the day are due diligence and always check with F Chat first.
Yikes!! Best wishes for the best for Collecter!! Hang in there and keep us updated on any forward progress. PDG
Well done El Wayne. I had no idea that they could so accurately change a photo of a chassis number to look so good. The one showing the chassis stamp was very good, the 7 even looked slightly irregular which made it look more convincing to me. Lets hope Collector gets his money back and the police get involved.
My apologies to collector if he indeed now has to deal with something like this. Still feels odd but stranger things...
Purchasing a vintage Ferrari out of Indonesia sight unseen! What could possibly go wrong? Good luck to Mr Collector getting any money back. That will be a tough and expensive exercise. But I was very impressed with the Photoshop work on the serial numbers. Very convincing. Well done El Wayne spotting thr original photos.
Wayne is the amazing one... I'm Mike, the less amazing one. Wayne is simply one of the best, and a real asset to the board and its members. Mike
You're all amazing! The power of the Internet is really driven home too. Nice to see that it wasn't just some fake post all along. Thread of the month I say. I hope the OP can update us on what, if any, resolution was.
