I went to my local Toyota dealer in N. CA this evening to buy a new '06 4Runner. I sat down with the sale guy and told him I was trading in my '05 V8 4Runner. He told me that Toyota has ceased to allocate ANY V8 4Runner's to N. CA! WTF? Why would Toyota do this? I was peaved and I won't buy a V6!

Is it diesel? VW had issues with smog checks and stopped sending their Toureg V10 TDi here.

If I had more time, I would locate one in S. CA. I'm trying to get a purchase in by 12/31 for tax reasons (The V8 4Runner is over the 6000 GVW where you get to write off $25K for the purchase). The cool thing is the fact that the V8 Sport 4Runners will be very limited in N. CA, thus the resale should hold higher. They only started with a V8 in '05 (TMK)

Perhaps with the aid of the internet you can locate one over the state line. You need to complete your paperwork before 12/31, you can take delivery in mid January if it is easier for you. Just as you can buy a Ferrari sight unseen and have it delivered to your front door, you can do the same with a Toyota. Maybe you can locate the vehicle you seek in the Portland area. Car dealers are generally slow this time of year so getting them to aid you in this quest should not be the obsticale it would be in May.

Peter, did you miss the responses the last time you posted this? You will lose money doing this transaction, even with the tax incentives.

You will recapture almost every penny of that tax writeoff...

Why would you trade in a 1 year old toyota?!

I'm confused, why wouldn't the dealer try to locate you one? Dealers always try a locate on the vehicle even if they find it out of state.

California won't let you register a car bought out of state if it has fewer than 7500 miles on it. Point: bureaucrats.
