Today, I had the pleasure of putting in a good hour of seat time in Rakjoe's Murcielago! We started at the Malibu Country Mart and took the Las Virgenes to Mulholland HWY rte to the 818 and ended it with a good rip on the freeway, back to the Westside!

The car felt like it was absolutely glued to the ground. I didn't go very fast (not my car) maybe 125? I dunno but the only thing I was thinking (other than the obvious fact that Joe was gracious enough to let me do it) was that I could have gone one hell of a lot faster without any problem!

To compare, the low end powerband was there like in the 550 but this has more in reserve ...kinda like a hyper drive that a 550 doesn't have. The steering was a little heavier due to the all wheel drive. I could feel the front wheels digging into the corners. Unbelievable.

Both are equally comfortable to sit in (once there) and the air works well. There was about 50% more drama than with the 550 from others. :D

As for the title of this thread. At a light a 355 Spider went by in front of us and I felt like going after it would have been kinda like killing a butterfly with a hammer! So he got to live to see another day!

    I can't wait to try a Gallardo.

    There you have it.........

I must compliment you on your self control, Dave.

Had you struck down that 355, your journey to the dark side would be complete!

    Totally awesome!

I'm glad you enjoyed the car, Darth.
The 355 you are talking about could probably be killed only by looking at it from a Murcie, come on..be nice.
I hope the ride yesterday will be instrumental in your decision about your next car, both Murcie and the Gallardo are excellent cars and it's a matter of personal preference to decide between them.

    Hey Darth,

Was your friend's Murci pearl yellow 6-speed coupe with a Platinum Motorsports exhaust and were you at the car place that makes 356 and 550 replicas? If you were, I was the younger guy standing outside this place and talking with your friend Joe (i think that's his name).

My dad and I test drove the 550 Spyder replica.

If this was you, I got a weird feeling that it was you from several pics you have posted in this forum. Forgot to ask you.

Darth, I came down to the garage one morning during the rampage and there was a black on black murcie parked next to my car. It was stunningly sinister and just plain gorgous. Its a car I will own one day if we don't run out of gas first!

IMO an M is a lot of car for the $. Esp. a used one. I'd go for a E shift as for me the feel of the clutch in the 6 sp. is lacking. The only thing I don't like about M's is lack of interior storage space. There is a big difference between a mid and front engined car. I like midengined much better.

As for being light weight there is something to that. At the recent Historic Targa I was able to put 20 minutes in the mountain stage on a 288 GTO in my 1947 166s as the roads were so narrow and twisty and there were things I could squeeze past and he couldn't. 8000 turns in 1100 kms.

When we got to the race track I brought out something a bit more modern...

So they actualy sell the replicas?
The 550 was the reason why we came over to that place, I wanted to take a look at it and Darth didn't mind.
When you and your dad drove past the Coffee Bean in that 550 I was kind of disapointed with the way it sounds, something like the VW beetle. Does it have the VW engine ? I hope not because it sounded like crap.
OK, no more hijacking of the tread.

    Darth, a reminder...

    Whats up Joe,

Yes, the 550 spyder has a VW engine (i think 2.1 L with about 200 HP) but it is pretty fast. It also has a VW chassis. A lot of the parts are VW. But one of the big pros of this is that, for insurance purposes, it's registered as a VW b/c of its chassis so the insurance cost is very low. One of the guys at the place said it was about $500-$600 per year.

Personally, I didn't think the sound was that bad. But it is not a comfortable car to drive. It's really small, especially for someone as tall as you. And the clutch is like a rock. The hardest clutch I've ever experienced. I guess the car is just the way the original one was - hard to drive like all classic sports cars of the past.

But you have to admit the car is one of the best looking cars ever made. And around $28K isn't that bad of a price.

Again, nice Murci. It sounds sick.

Joe and Darth: Na'im Me'ode. Nice meeting you guys.

    How are you budy!

I realy like the Spyder550 and was thinking of getting one or at least test drive one, I didn't know they have them for sale at that joint.
With 200hp it must be flying, it's probably very light.
I took some pictures of it.
Are you gona buy it ?

My dad was very interested in buying one. I have a poster in my room of James Dean posing by his 550 Spyder with the "Little Bastard" sticker on it at the gas station that he supposedly filled up at before getting into his accident. Every time my dad comes into my room he looks at it and tells me how he has to get one of those.

He wanted a silver/red one just like Dean's BUT after test driving the car last Sunday he's changed his mind. He thinks it's too small, unsafe, and kind of cheaply made. He hates the fact that it's made out of fiberglass. My dad really has a thing about fiberglass cars. He also thinks that the car is too uncomfortable (no power steering etc) and this coming from a guy who has almost every old sports car except a Corvette (fiberglass) and a Ferrari for about 30 yrs.

Now, we might search for a clean, restored 356 Speedster.

I honestly think that you'd barely fit in the car. Your head will be considerably above the windshield. But maybe you should check it out.

BTW, that place does sell them.
