on saturday i went to see a 355 and i thought that model looked fantastic. i suddenly wondered if my long held desire to own a TR had just been cast aside. so i decided to go to FOW and check out their TR that had been there for over a year.

vroom vroom and there i am, and it's just sitting lonely in the corner. i must have stared at that car for 30 mins from every angle before bob mcelwee wandered over. i briefly mentioned what a nice car it was and that it was there for a while. after he responded that yeah it's a nice car and the market is soft for TRs now, i blurted out i'll take it for 60K as he was walking away. he stopped, turned around and said he would communicate the offer to the seller. i said sure, that would be great, as i'm interested in the car. he offered to get the key, and while he showed me the engine bay and let me sit in the car, he mentioned that it had its major done at FOW recently. after some more talk about the car, i walked out waiting to hear back from bob on monday.

well monday morning at 1130 bob calls me and we settle on a price very close to my original offer. wow! i just bought a TR! very different from my 308, and a much bigger attention grabber. i can't wait for a nice weekend! i posted some pics, admittedly not great ones as i forgot to do it earlier when the car was outside. will do it later....in the meantime i'm excited and totally stunned! i never expected to buy a car this weekend!

    Nice!!

Always glad to see someone help out a lonely car. So, do you do a coin toss every time you walk out to the garage? ;)

Ferrraris do that...they sometimes scratch at the door!

I've had both a TR and a Boxer do that........I hide until they go away..

Although, as Sid Simpson once said to me......
"What's four more spark plugs???... and look at all that additional room, for an ice chest!"

    LOL!

Welcome to the TR ranks. Seems like you got a very good deal if the major was done recently. Great time to buy a TR. I'll be very interested in reading your observations contrasting your ownership feelings between your two Ferraris after you've had the time to put some substantial miles on your TR.

    Congratulations!

O yeah I forgot to ask how did you get it so cheap? I thought TRs sold at closer to 100k or more?

What's the mileage, Took her home yet. You'll love the TR, a true grand touring. A true daily use supercar, no others come close in this term.

Different versions of the "Testarossa" are in different price brackets - there was the original, the 512TR in '91 and the F512M in '94 (?).

as jon said there are different TRs. the 1st generation TR, the one i bought, generally doesn't go past 75K, and can be had for as little as 45K. the 2nd iteration, 512TR, is a 80-125K car. and the final version, the 512M, of which only 75 were brought into the country, is a 150-180K car.

Congrats on your purchase, John!!! The jump from a 308 to a TR is a big one, but drive the TR and you'll love it more with each mile. Congrats again :) !!!!
